The CE marking for carbon monoxide alarms is based on the EN 50291 standard. The details are as follows:
Core Test Requirements
Detection Sensitivity: It needs to respond accurately within a specific concentration threshold (e.g. 30ppm to 1000ppm).
Environmental adaptability: need to pass the high temperature, low temperature, humidity and other extreme environmental testing.
False Alarm Protection: To eliminate cross interference with other gases (e.g. methane, hydrogen).
Compliance Directive
Low Voltage Directive (LVD 2014/35/EU): ensures electrical safety.
Electromagnetic Compatibility Directive (EMC 2014/30/EU): to avoid interference with other devices. In the case of devices with wireless transmission capabilities, the Radio Equipment Directive (RED 2014/53/EU) must also be followed.
Other requirements
EC Declaration of Conformity: the manufacturer has to declare that the product complies with the EN standard and the EU directives.
Test report: issued by an authorized laboratory, covering performance, safety and EMC tests.
Packaging labeling: Triman logo (for French market) and recycling instructions are required.
