Making candy molds with platinum-cured liquid silicone rubber (addition-cured liquid silicone rubber) is a commonly used process in the food processing field. Its core advantages lie in the food safety of the materials, excellent molding accuracy and durability. The following is a detailed explanation from aspects such as material properties, production steps and precautions:
I. Why Choose platinum-cured liquid silicone rubber to make candy molds?
Platinum-cured liquid silicone rubber (referred to as "addition-cured silicone rubber") is a two-component material cured through a hydrosilane addition reaction initiated by a platinum catalyst. Compared with condensation-type silicone rubber (which releases small-molecule by-products), it has more advantages in food contact scenarios:
Food-grade safety
The curing process contains no low-molecular-weight volatile substances (such as alcohol, acetic acid, etc.), and the products after vulcanization are non-toxic and odorless. They comply with food contact material standards such as FDA 21 CFR 177.2600 and LFGB, and can be in direct contact with edible foods such as candies and chocolates.
Excellent physical properties
It has good elasticity (Shore hardness is usually 30-60A) and excellent demolding property: candies can be easily peeled off after molding, do not stick to the mold, and do not deform, especially suitable for complex patterns (such as cartoon shapes, relief patterns).
It has a wide range of high and low temperature resistance (-60℃ to 200℃) : It can withstand the high temperature during sugar boiling (for example, the boiling temperature of hard candy is about 150℃), and also adapt to scenarios such as chocolate that require refrigeration and shaping.
Strong chemical stability: Resistant to corrosion by food components such as sugar solutions, oils, and flavorings, not prone to aging, and has a long service life (can be demolded hundreds of times under normal use).
High replication accuracy
When in liquid form, it has good fluidity and can perfectly fill the fine lines of the prototype (such as 0.1mm lines and small holes). After curing, it can precisely replicate the details of the prototype, ensuring the consistency of the candy shape.
