Instrument introduction

The instrument is used to measure the wear condition of the boundary lubricity of aviation turbine fuel on the surface of friction steel. Testing Principles: The fluid under test is placed in a test reservoir in which atmospheric air is maintained at 10 % relative humidity. A non-rotating steel ball is held in a vertically mounted chuck and forced against the outside diameter of an axially mounted cylindrical steel ring with an applied load. The test ring is rotated at a fixed speed while being partially immersed in the fluid reservoir. This maintains the ring in a wet condition and continuously transports the test fluid to the ball/ring interface. The wear scar generated on the test ball is a measure of the lubricating property of the fluid.

5. Automatic flow controller for humid and dry air: no operator control is required to regulate air humidity and flow.

6. Interchangeable humidity and temperature probes: Humidity and temperature measurements do not need to be recalibrated, simply replace the combined RH and temperature probes with an exchangeable pre-calibrated unit.

7. Heating and cooling system: Pall-paste heating and cooling system.

8. Digital microscope with image acquisition system and software.

9. All parameters: motor speed, test time, fuel temperature, air temperature, humidity data, etc. are directly displayed.

     10. Ultrasonic cleaner.
