1. Product Definition & Core Overview

Shipbuilding steel plate, fully named structural steel plate for ship and offshore engineering, is a special hot-rolled steel plate exclusively developed for hull structures, offshore platforms and marine engineering equipment. Manufactured in strict accordance with classification society standards worldwide, it features excellent low-temperature impact toughness, lamellar tear resistance, superior seawater corrosion resistance, fatigue resistance and alternating load resistance. With stable and reliable weldability, the product can serve stably for a long time in harsh marine environments with high salt fog, high humidity, wind and wave impact, and extreme low temperature.

Different from ordinary carbon steel plates, shipbuilding plates adopt strict control of harmful impurities such as sulfur and phosphorus with uniform and dense grain structure. Approved by rigorous ship inspection certification, it possesses core properties including brittle fracture resistance, impact resistance, seawater rust resistance and marine weather aging resistance. It serves as the core load-bearing base material for shipbuilding, ocean shipping, offshore wind power, offshore drilling platforms and port construction machinery.

2. Executive Standards & Classification Society Certification

3.1.1 Normal Strength Ship Plate (Grade A/B/D/E)

Special plate for basic hull structures with balanced toughness, excellent weldability and high cost performance. It is applied to non-core load-bearing parts of hulls, cabin partitions, auxiliary deck plates and secondary hull outer structures.

  • Grade A: Room-temperature impact property, suitable for inland and mild offshore sea area hull structures

  • Grade B: 20℃ impact property, mainstream material for coastal and offshore ships

  • Grade D: -20℃ low-temperature impact property, suitable for ocean-going ships and low-temperature sea areas

  • Grade E: -40℃ ultra-low temperature impact property, dedicated to polar route and frigid sea area ships

3.1.2 High Strength Ship Plate (AH32/DH32/EH32, AH36/DH36/EH36)

Featuring high strength, high toughness and fatigue resistance with higher yield strength and stronger load-bearing capacity, this series is mainly used for core load-bearing hull structures including main decks, bottom plates, side plates, keels and bulkheads. It is widely applied to large cargo ships, container ships, oil tankers and bulk carriers.

  • Grade 32: Minimum yield strength ≥ 315MPa

  • Grade 36: Minimum yield strength ≥ 355MPa, the most widely used high-strength ship plate grade

  • Code explanation: A = Room temperature, D = -20℃, E = -40℃, H = High strength

3.1.3 Ultra-High Strength Ship Plate (AH40/EH40, AH550, DH550, EH550, FH550)

With ultra-high strength, high pressure resistance and strong impact resistance, these plates are designed for heavy-load structures of large ocean-going vessels, offshore drilling platforms, offshore wind power foundations, deep-sea engineering equipment and large military ships, capable of withstanding extreme marine wind-wave loads and alternating stresses.

3.2 Classification by Delivery Condition

  • AR (As-Rolled): General delivery state for thin and medium plates with moderate cost

  • TMCP (Thermo-Mechanical Controlled Process): Temperature-controlled rolling with refined grain structure and better toughness, suitable for medium and heavy plates

  • N (Normalized): Uniform and stable structure with excellent low-temperature impact performance, dedicated to heavy plates and low-temperature working conditions

  • Normalized + Tempered / Quenched & Tempered: For ultra-high strength heavy plates, eliminating rolling residual stress and preventing subsequent deformation and cracking

4. Specification Range

  • Thickness: 3mm~150mm; thin plate: 3–14mm, medium plate: 14–50mm, heavy plate: 50–150mm

  • Width: 1500mm, 1800mm, 2000mm, 2200mm, 2500mm, custom wide width available

  • Length: 6000mm–12000mm, supporting custom fixed-length cutting, arbitrary cutting, special-shaped cutting and precision beveling

  • Dimensional Tolerance: Adopting national high-precision tolerance standard with flat and straight plate shape, no camber or wave deformation

  • UT Inspection Grade: Grade Ⅰ/Ⅱ/Ⅲ ultrasonic testing available to meet marine special equipment inspection requirements

  • Surface Quality: Clean and flat plate surface without harmful defects such as cracks, scars, delaminations, bubbles and inclusions

5. Core Mechanical Properties

All shipbuilding plates are certified by classification societies with qualified low-temperature impact, cold bending and tensile properties. They are free from brittle fracture and deformation after welding, perfectly adapting to marine alternating load working conditions.

  • Normal Strength Grades (A/B/D/E): Yield ≥235MPa, Tensile 400–520MPa, Elongation ≥24%

  • AH32/DH32/EH32: Yield ≥315MPa, Tensile 440–570MPa, sufficient low-temperature impact energy

  • AH36/DH36/EH36: Yield ≥355MPa, Tensile 490–630MPa, optimal comprehensive strength and toughness

  • Processing Performance: No cracks after 180° cold bending test, supporting arbitrary bending, rolling and welding forming

  • Low-Temperature Toughness: Qualified impact performance at -20℃ for Grade D and -40℃ for Grade E, eliminating low-temperature brittle fracture risks

6. Production Process Flow

High-quality molten steel refining (vacuum degassing, sulfur & phosphorus reduction) → Continuous casting thick slab → Uniform heating in walking-beam furnace → High-pressure water intensive descaling → Multi-pass precision controlled rolling → TMCP temperature-controlled cooling → Straightening & leveling → Heat treatment (normalizing/tempering on demand) → Shot blasting surface cleaning → Steel stamping marking (grade, heat batch number, classification society logo) → 100% ultrasonic inspection → Physical & chemical mechanical sampling test → Fixed-length cutting & beveling → Anti-rust treatment → Packaging & warehousing & ship inspection certification
