1. Product Overview

Silicon steel, also known as electrical steel, is a special soft magnetic iron-silicon alloy steel with a silicon content of 0.5%~4.5% and carbon content lower than 0.08%. It is an indispensable core functional material in electric power, electrical appliance and new energy industries. The addition of silicon element improves the resistivity of steel, reduces hysteresis loss and eddy current loss. It features excellent magnetic conductivity, low core loss, high magnetic flux density and superior stamping & shearing machinability.

Commercial silicon steel is mainly divided into two categories: Cold Rolled Non-Oriented Silicon Steel and Cold Rolled Grain Oriented Silicon Steel. The traditional hot-rolled silicon steel has been basically phased out and rarely used commercially. Supplied in forms of steel coils, custom-sized flat sheets and stamped laminations, it is primarily applied to manufacture iron cores for various electrical equipment to realize mutual conversion between electrical energy and mechanical energy. It is widely used in power grid, electromechanical equipment, new energy, household appliances, industrial control and other fields.

2. Product Classification & Core Performance Comparison

According to production process and magnetic characteristics, commercial silicon steel is classified into cold rolled non-oriented silicon steel and cold rolled grain oriented silicon steel; hot rolled silicon steel is eliminated for most commercial scenarios.

2.1 Cold Rolled Non-Oriented Silicon Steel

Process Principle: Formed by cold rolling and annealing treatment; internal grains are randomly distributed with consistent magnetic properties in all directions without magnetization direction difference.

Appearance Characteristics: Uniform insulating coating on the surface with smooth and flat plate shape; conventional grey or beige organic insulating coating.

Performance Characteristics: Isotropic magnetism in all directions, good formability, easy for bending and stamping; medium iron loss, suitable for rotary electrical equipment.

Application Scenarios: Iron cores for various rotary motors, motors, fans, compressors, generators, new energy vehicle motors and household electrical appliances.

2.2 Cold Rolled Grain Oriented Silicon Steel

Process Principle: Manufactured via precise controlled rolling and high-temperature annealing; internal grains are arranged uniformly along the rolling direction to obtain excellent unidirectional magnetic conductivity. Divided into conventional grain oriented silicon steel and High-B grain oriented silicon steel (HiB).

Appearance Characteristics: Composite insulating coating composed of underlying glass film and outer phosphate coating with dense corrosion-resistant structure; higher flatness precision.

Performance Characteristics: Extremely high magnetic flux density and ultra-low iron loss along the rolling direction; poor transverse magnetic property, relatively high hardness and ordinary stamping performance.

Application Scenarios: Static power conversion equipment; iron cores for power transformers, distribution transformers, reactors, instrument transformers and large-scale grid energy storage equipment.
