1. Product Overview

Color Coated Steel Coil, abbreviated as PPGI (Prepainted Galvanized Coil) and PPGL (Prepainted Galvalume Coil), takes cold rolled coil, hot-dip galvanized coil, galvalume coil or Zn-Al-Mg coil as substrate. It undergoes continuous degreasing & cleaning, chemical passivation pretreatment, double-side roller coating of organic paint and high-temperature baking & curing to form pre-painted metal coils.

Combining high tensile toughness of steel and anti-corrosion & decorative performance of organic coating, the finished coil is equipped with complete color protective paint film without secondary on-site painting. It features rich colors, excellent weather & corrosion resistance and outstanding bending & roll forming performance, serving as mainstream enclosure & decorative raw materials for steel structure buildings, home appliances, photovoltaic and container industries.

Composite Anti-Corrosion Structure Principle

5-layer full protective system: Metal substrate → Alloy anti-corrosion coating → Chemical conversion passivation film → Primer layer → Topcoat layer.The bottom zinc/aluminum-zinc alloy provides sacrificial anode anti-rust protection; passivation film improves coating adhesion; primer blocks water vapor penetration; topcoat isolates UV ray, acid rain and salt fog erosion. Multi-layer composite greatly extends outdoor service life and effectively prevents steel rusting, color fading and chalking.

2. Substrate Types, Steel Grades & Applicable Working Conditions

2.1 Hot-Dip Galvanized Substrate PPGI (Mainstream Product)

Grades: DX51D+Z, DX52D+Z, DX53D+Z, S220GD, S250GD, S350GD, S550GDZinc coating weight: Z40~Z275g/㎡Application: Ordinary workshops, warehouses, fences, prefab houses, indoor home appliance shells with highest cost performance.

2.2 Galvalume Substrate PPGL (High Weather Resistance)

Grades: DX51D+AZ, DX52D+AZ, S350GD+AZ, coating with 55%Al+43.5%Zn+1.5%SiApplication: Coastal high salt fog areas, high-temperature workshops, photovoltaic supports, long-term outdoor buildings, service life over 1.5 times of ordinary galvanized substrate.

2.3 Zn-Al-Mg Substrate ZM (Heavy-Duty Anti-Corrosion Premium Grade)

DX51D+ZM, ternary alloy coating of Al, Zn, Mg with self-healing cut edges, superior salt fog & acid rain resistanceApplication: Chemical plants, coastal heavy corrosion zones, livestock breeding workshops.

2.4 Cold Rolled Substrate CRC (Indoor Only)

SPCC, DC01 without galvanized layer, only for dry indoor short-term use, indoor decoration & small home appliance inner liners.

Uncoiling of cold rolled / galvanized substrate → Degreasing & washing → Pure water rinsing → Chemical passivation conversion treatment → Drying → Front side primer roller coating → Baking & curing → Front side topcoat roller coating → High-temperature curing & cooling → Back side back coat roller coating → Secondary baking → Surface film lamination (optional) → Tension coiling → Coil marking & coding → Finished product inspection → Strapping & warehousing

7. Mandatory Batch Inspection Standards (Sampling Test Per Batch)

7.1 Mechanical & Coating Performance Tests

  1. Tensile test: Yield strength, tensile strength, elongation after fracture, classified into CQ commercial grade, FH forming grade and high-strength structural grade

  2. 180° T-bend test: No paint cracking or peeling at T0–T3, suitable for roll forming & bending

  3. Film thickness test: Random inspection of coating thickness to guarantee weather & anti-corrosion service life

  4. Cross-hatch adhesion test: No paint peeling, firm bonding between coating and substrate

  5. Salt spray test: PE ≥500h, HDP ≥1000h, PVDF ≥3000h without red rust

  6. UV aging test: Simulate outdoor exposure to test color fading and chalking grade

7.2 Appearance & Dimensional Inspection

Uniform paint film free of missing coating, sagging, bubbles, scratches, roll marks and color difference; neat coil shape without loose winding or telescoping; thickness, width and coil weight checked & recorded coil by coil.
