C276 Introduction
Super alloys or high performance alloys are available in a variety of shapes and contain elements in different combinations to obtain a specific result. These alloys are of three types that include iron-based, cobalt-based and
nickel-based alloys. The nickel-based and cobalt-based super alloys are available as cast or wrought based alloys according to composition and application. Super alloys have good oxidation and creep resistance and can be strengthened by precipitation hardening, solid-solution hardening and work hardening methods. They can also function under high mechanical stress and high temperatures and also in places that require high surface stability. HASTELLOY(r) C276 is a wrought corrosion-resistant alloy that resists the development of grain boundary precipitates that degrade corrosion resistance. The following datasheet provides an overview of HASTELLOY(r) C276.
Forging Socket Welding Cap Introduction
Description
A cap is a type of fitting used to close the end of a pipeline. They are primarily used to terminate a pipe run and prevent fluid or gas from leaking out. Caps can be either permanent or semi-permanent.
Socket weld pipe connections are used in high temperature and high-pressure environments. Socket weld pipe connections feature a smooth internal bore sized to match the outer diameter of the pipe. The pipe end is inserted into the socket and then fillet welded around the joint, forming a strong, leak-tight seal. Socket weld connections are popular in smaller sized fittings and are permanent.
Forged Carbon Steel Components are manufactured via a process known as forging. Carbon Steel is the most common and widely used
form of steel worldwide due to its strength, workability, and cost. Carbon Steel is an alloy of Iron that uses carbon as the
primary alloying element.Unlike cast steel, forged steel components are created by direct manipulation of the metal by compressive tools like a hammer or a press. Forged Steel is generally stronger than cast steel and has a lower rate of defects.

Forging Socket Welding Cap Processing
Raw Material Incoming Inspection Select round bars or ingots (e.g., A105, 304/316L forged stock) and verify that their chemical composition, mechanical properties, and surface quality comply with applicable standards (e.g., ASTM
A105/A182).
Cutting and Heating: Cut the raw stock to the specified dimensions, then heat it via induction or furnace to the
appropriate forging temperature (approx. 1100–1250°C for carbon steel; approx. 1000–1150°C for stainless steel).
Die Forging: Form the rough workpiece—featuring a socket bore and external threads (if required)—using dies on a forging hammer or hydraulic press, ensuring a continuous grain flow and the absence of folds or cracks.
Heat Treatment (Material-dependent): Carbon steel typically undergoes normalizing, or normalizing followed by tempering, to refine its grain structure; stainless steel (e.g., 304) requires solution annealing (at approx. 1050°C) to enhance its corrosion resistance and toughness.
Trimming and Shot Blasting:Remove flash and burrs, then perform shot blasting to remove scale and surface oxides while simultaneously surface-hardening the component.
Machining: Use a lathe to machine the inner diameter of the socket bore, the outer diameter, the end face, and the bevel (if applicable for butt-weld ends). The socket depth and wall thickness are precisely controlled in accordance with relevant standards (e.g., ASME B16.11), typically maintaining an insertion clearance of approximately 1.6 mm.
Inspection and Marking: Conduct dimensional checks, surface non-destructive testing (PT/MT), and hardness testing. Apply standard markings via steel stamping (indicating material grade, pressure rating, standard number, and heat/batch number).
Corrosion Protection and Packaging: Carbon steel components may be coated with rust-inhibiting oil or galvanized; stainless steel components undergo pickling and passivation. Finally, pack the finished products into crates, accompanied by the corresponding Material Test Report (MTR).
Note: Socket-weld caps are not manufactured using stamping or welded-end processes (which are the methods used for butt-weld caps/ends); their core manufacturing process consists of forging followed by machining
