Product Description
C276 Introduction
Super alloys or high performance alloys are available in a variety of shapes and contain elements in different combinations to obtain a specific result. These alloys are of three types that include iron-based, cobalt-based and nickel-based alloys. The ickel-based and cobalt-based super alloys are available as cast or wrought based alloys according to composition and application.
Super alloys have good oxidation and creep resistance and can be strengthened by precipitation hardening, solid-solution hardening and work hardening methods. They can also function under high mechanical stress and high temperatures and also in places that require high surface stability. HASTELLOY(r) C276 is a wrought corrosion-resistant alloy that resists the development of grain boundary precipitates that degrade corrosion resistance.
The following datasheet provides an overview of HASTELLOY(r) C276.
C276 Forging Technology Socket Welding Cap Introduction
Forged socket welded pipe caps (also known as high-pressure pipe caps and forged steel pipe caps) are key accessories for closing pipe ends in pipeline systems. They are formed through a forging process and connected to the pipes using socket welding. They have the characteristics of high strength and high sealing, and are widely used in pipeline scenarios with high pressure, high temperature, and corrosive media.
Core features
1. High strength and reliability. It is formed by forging processes such as die forging and free forging. The metal fibers are continuous and there are no internal defects such as blisters and pores. It can withstand high-pressure environments of **16-32.0Mpa (1500LB-9000LB)** and operates stably in high-pressure pipeline systems such as petroleum, chemical industry, and electric power.
2. The excellent sealing socket welding connection method makes the pipe cap and the pipe interface closely fit, and cooperates with the high-precision molding of the forging process to effectively prevent medium leakage. It is suitable for water, steam, oil, corrosive gas and other medium transportation scenarios.
3. Corrosion resistance and long life. The mainstream materials are stainless steel (304, 316L, 321, etc.), carbon steel (A105, 20#), and alloy steel (1Cr5Mo, F11/F22, etc.). Among them, stainless steel has excellent corrosion resistance and can be used for a long time in harsh environments such as acid, alkali, high temperature oxidation, etc., and its life span can reach decades.
4. Strong standardization and adaptability. It implements international/domestic standards such as ASME, B16.11, MSS SP-75, JIS2316, GB/T14383, HG/T21634, etc. The nominal diameter covers DN15-DN200 (1/4"-5"), and the pressure level covers Sch40-Sch160. It is suitable for global mainstream pipeline systems, and special sizes and materials can be customized.

C276 Forging Technology Socket Welding Cap Product Processing
The manufacturing process of the socket-welded pipe cap for forged parts integrates the forging technology with the characteristics of the socket-welding structure. The core steps can be summarized as: raw material preparation → forging → socket-welding processing → heat treatment → surface treatment → quality inspection. The following is a detailed process description:
1. Raw Material PreparationMaterial Selection: Preferentially select high-quality carbon structural steel (such as Q235), stainless steel (such as 304, 316L), or alloy steel to ensure that the material's mechanical properties and corrosion resistance meet industry standards (such as GB/T 12459, ASME B16.9). Bar and Plate Cutting: Cut the steel pipe or steel plate billets according to the specifications of the pipe cap (diameter, wall thickness, socket length). Process the reference dimensions of the socket end through turning, milling, etc., and reserve the forging allowance (usually 5%-10% of the final size).
2. Forging Process (Core Process)Heating and Softening: Place the billet in an induction heating furnace or gas heating furnace and heat it to the forging temperature (carbon steel approximately 1100-1250°C, stainless steel approximately 1050-1150°C) to make the material reach a plastic deformation state. Die Forging: Place the heated billet in a dedicated forging die and apply pressure using a press or a free forging hammer to fill the die cavity and form the convex shape (hemispherical, elliptical, disc-shaped) or conical shell structure of the pipe cap. Note: For convex-shaped pipe caps, the hemispherical shape has the best load-bearing performance but the highest manufacturing difficulty. The disc-shaped pipe cap is simple to manufacture but has obvious stress concentration, and the choice should be based on the usage scenario. Precision Correction: After forging, perform turning, grinding, etc. on the wall thickness, diameter, and socket end dimensions of the pipe cap to ensure that the dimensional tolerances comply with the design requirements (such as the diameter deviation of the socket end ≤ ±0.1mm).
3. Socket Welding ProcessingSocket End Finishing: Perform chamfering and deburring on the socket end of the pipe cap to ensure the mating gap with the pipe (usually 0.5-1mm), avoiding gas holes, slag inclusion during welding. Welding Process: Use argon arc welding (TIG) or manual arc welding (SMAW) for socket welding. During welding, control the current and welding speed to ensure uniform weld penetration and no incomplete fusion, cracks, etc. Key Requirements: The weld seam of socket welding must completely penetrate the pipe end to form a sealed connection, and avoid excessive heating that causes the material performance of the pipe cap to deteriorate.
4.. Heat TreatmentDecompression Annealing: After welding, conduct decompression annealing at 500-650°C to eliminate welding residual stress and prevent deformation or cracking of the pipe cap during use. Normalizing/Quenching and Tempering: For high-strength alloy steel pipe caps, perform normalizing or quenching and tempering treatment to refine the grain structure and enhance the strength and toughness of the material, ensuring that the mechanical properties meet the requirements. Note: For some special materials (such as 9Cr18 stainless steel), special heat treatment processes such as high-temperature normalizing, repeated normalizing, etc. may be required to eliminate the structural defects (such as carbide network, coarse grains) caused by forging or welding.
5. Surface TreatmentCleaning and Rust Removal: Remove the oxide scale, welding slag, and oil stains on the surface of the pipe cap through sandblasting, acid washing, etc., to ensure the surface cleanliness. Corrosion/Decoration Treatment: Select painting, electroplating, passivation, etc. processes based on the usage environment. For stainless steel pipe caps, passivation treatment can be used to enhance corrosion resistance, while carbon steel pipe caps need to be coated with anti-rust paint or galvanized treatment.
6. Quality InspectionDimensional Inspection: Use calipers, three-coordinate measuring instruments to inspect the diameter, wall thickness, socket length, angle, etc. of the pipe cap to ensure compliance with the drawing requirements. Non-destructive Testing: Conduct X-ray, ultrasonic, magnetic particle inspection on the weld seam to detect internal gas holes, slag inclusion, cracks, etc.; conduct ultrasonic inspection on the pipe cap body to detect internal defects (such as shrinkage cavities, coarse grains) in forging. Mechanical Property Inspection: Sample for tensile, impact, hardness tests to verify whether the strength, toughness, and hardness of the material meet the requirements. Pressure Test: Conduct hydraulic or pneumatic pressure tests on the welding joint of the pipe cap and the pipe to ensure that the sealing performance and pressure-bearing capacity meet the design requirements (such as the test pressure being 1.5 times the working pressure).
