C276 Introduction

Super alloys or high performance alloys are available in a variety of shapes and contain elements in different combinations to obtain a specific result. These alloys are of three types that include iron-based, cobalt-based and

nickel-based alloys. The nickel-based and cobalt-based super alloys are available as cast or wrought based alloys according to composition and application.

Super alloys have good oxidation and creep resistance and can be strengthened by precipitation hardening, solid-solution hardening and work hardening methods. They can also function under high mechanical stress and high temperatures and also in places that require high surface stability.

HASTELLOY(r) C276 is a wrought corrosion-resistant alloy that resists the development of grain boundary precipitates that degrade corrosion resistance.

The following datasheet provides an overview of HASTELLOY(r) C276.

Forging Socket Welding Elbow Introduction
As a type of pipe fitting manufactured in accordance with standards established by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), socket weld elbows play a pivotal role across numerous sectors, including petrochemicals, power generation, and pharmaceuticals. Their bending angles are primarily categorized into 45°, 90°, and 180°, serving to facilitate fluid conveyance in various directions. ASME B16.11 is a standard for forged pipe fittings developed by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME). It applies to high-pressure, small-bore (NPS 1/8 through 4) socket-welding and threaded fittings, stipulating the dimensions, tolerances, marking requirements, pressure ratings, and material specifications for socket weld elbows. These fittings are frequently utilized in piping systems characterized by high pressure, vibration, or frequent thermal cycling. Other common applicable standards include GB/T14383, SH3410, and HG/T21634. Socket weld elbows facilitate pipe connections by requiring the pipe to be inserted into the "socket" end of the fitting, after which it is permanently secured via welding to redirect the flow path. Compared to butt-weld fittings, the socket-welded configuration creates a structure resembling a "cavity"; this design results in relatively lower stress concentration at the weld joint under high-pressure conditions, making it particularly well-suited for high-pressure applications involving small to medium-diameter piping. To accommodate diverse operating environments, socket weld elbows can be manufactured from a variety of materials, including carbon steel, alloy steel, stainless steel, and low-temperature steel. Relevant material standards include ASTM A105 / A105N for carbon steel; ASTM A182 F304/304L/304H, F316/316L, etc., for stainless steel; ASTM A350 LF2 / LF3 for low-temperature steel; and ASTM A182 F5 / F9 / F11, etc., for alloy steel. The ASME B16.11 standard classifies the pressure ratings for socket weld elbows. For fittings utilizing the socket-welding connection method, the pressure ratings are categorized into three distinct classes: 3000 LB (SCH 80), 6000 LB (SCH 160), and 9000 LB (XXS). The 3000LB class is suitable for medium-pressure service conditions, the 6000LB class is used for high-pressure systems, and the 9000LB class is applicable to even higher-pressure systems. The dimensional specifications for 90° socket weld elbows cover a range from DN6 to DN100 (NPS 1/8" to 4"). Detailed parameters include nominal size (DN and NPS), socket bore diameter, flow bore diameter, socket wall thickness, body wall thickness, socket depth, and the center-to-socket-bottom dimension. The connection dimensions for socket weld fittings are categorized into Series A (Series I, Imperial) and Series B (Series II, Metric). Standards such as ASME B16.11 and SH3410 specify the use of Series A dimensions. Standards such as GB/T14383 and HG21634, however, may offer both options, requiring the specific choice to be determined based on individual project requirements.

Forging Socket Welding Elbow Processing

The production of socket-weld elbows is not merely a simple process of "bending a pipe and welding"; rather, it is a complex undertaking involving multiple stages, including material selection, precision machining, and quality inspection. Taking the common stainless steel socket-weld elbow as an example, the production workflow typically encompasses the following steps:1. Raw Material Selection and Pre-treatment:** Based on the characteristics of the pipeline medium (such as corrosion resistance and high-temperature resistance), an appropriate stainless steel grade (e.g., 304, 316L) is selected. The raw material undergoes pre-treatment processes—such as cutting and grinding—to ensure a smooth, defect-free surface.2. Elbow Forming: Using hydraulic forming or hot-push forming techniques, a straight pipe is processed into an elbow with a specific bend angle. This stage requires strict control over the bending radius and wall thickness uniformity to prevent cracking caused by stress concentration.3. Socket Machining: A socket structure is machined into one end of the elbow; its dimensions must precisely match the outer diameter of the corresponding pipe to ensure a secure and leak-proof connection during assembly.4. Welding and Heat Treatment: Once the pipe is inserted into the socket, a high-precision welding process—such as Argon Arc Welding (TIG)—is employed to complete the connection. Following welding, heat treatment is performed to relieve residual welding stresses and prevent the formation of cracks during long-term service.5. Quality Inspection: The elbow's weld integrity, leak-tightness, and pressure-bearing capacity are verified through methods such as X-ray flaw detection and pressure testing, ensuring that every finished product complies with industry standards.
