Petroleum Pipe Product Detailed Description
Petroleum pipes (OCTG) are core special pipes for oil and gas exploration, development and transportation. They are manufactured by seamless or high-frequency welding processes, adapting to downhole high temperature, high pressure, strong corrosion and complex geological working conditions. They comply with API 5CT/5B, API 5L, GB/T 9711, GB 9948 and other standards, widely used in the whole process of drilling, well completion, oil production and oil & gas transmission.
1. Product Classification & Main Uses
1.1 Casing
Purpose: Support well walls to prevent collapse, isolate formation fluids and protect wellhead equipment, serving as the "framework" of oil wells, accounting for over 70% of oil country tubular goods consumption.
Types: Conductor pipe, Surface casing, Intermediate casing, Production casing.
1.2 Tubing
Purpose: Suspended inside casing to transport oil and gas from the bottom to the ground, suitable for oil production, gas production, water injection, acidizing and fracturing operations.
Types: Non-upset Tubing (NU), External-upset Tubing (EU), Integral Joint Tubing (IJ).
1.3 Drill Pipe
Purpose: Connect drill bit and surface equipment, transmit torque and circulate drilling fluid, bearing combined load of tension, compression, torsion and bending.
1.4 Line Pipe
Purpose: Long-distance transportation of crude oil and natural gas, including trunk lines and gathering pipelines, capable of withstanding high pressure and environmental stress.
1.5 Petroleum Cracking Pipe
Purpose: Used as furnace tubes and heat exchanger tubes in refineries, featuring high temperature resistance, high pressure resistance and sulfur corrosion resistance.
2. Material & Steel Grade
Made of carbon steel, alloy steel and corrosion-resistant alloys, graded by strength and corrosion resistance for different working conditions:
Low Strength Grade: H40, J55, K55 — Suitable for shallow wells and low-pressure environments.
Medium & High Strength Grade: N80, L80, P110 — For medium-deep wells and conventional high-pressure wells; L80 with sulfur resistance, P110 with high strength.
Sour Service Grade: C90, T95, C95 — For H₂S-bearing sour oil and gas wells, resistant to stress corrosion cracking.
Ultra-High Strength Grade: Q125, V140, V150 — For ultra-deep wells, high-pressure salt formations with high collapse resistance.
Corrosion Resistant Alloy: 13Cr, 22Cr, Nickel-based alloy — For high CO₂ and Cl⁻ severe corrosion environments.
3. Specification Parameters (API 5CT Standard)
3.1 Casing
Outer Diameter: 114.3mm～508mm (4½"～20")
Wall Thickness: 5mm～15.9mm
Length: 5.5m～22.23m (Common: 12m, 14m)
Thread Type: STC, LTC, BTC, Premium Connection.
3.2 Tubing
Outer Diameter: 48.36mm～114.3mm (2⅜"～4½")
Wall Thickness: 4.83mm～9.52mm
Length: 6m～12.5m (Common: 9m, 10m)
Thread Type: NU / EU thread.
3.3 API 5L Line Pipe
Outer Diameter: 60.3mm～1422mm
Wall Thickness: 3mm～25mm
Steel Grade: B, X42, X52, X60, X70, X80.

5. Product Features
High Strength: Excellent yield and tensile strength to bear downhole high pressure, make-up torque and formation collapse pressure.

Dimensional Accuracy: Strict tolerance on outer diameter and wall thickness, uniform microstructure with strong collapse and burst resistance.
6. Production Process
Seamless Pipe: Billet heating → Piercing → Hot rolling / Cold drawing → Heat treatment → Thread machining → NDT → Anti-corrosion treatment → Finished product.
ERW/HFW Welded Pipe: Steel strip forming → High-frequency welding → Weld seam treatment → Heat treatment → Thread machining → NDT → Anti-corrosion treatment → Finished product.
7. Quality Control
Chemical composition strict control of C, Si, Mn, P, S and alloy elements.
Mechanical property tests: Tensile, impact, hardness and flattening test.
Non-destructive testing: Ultrasonic testing, Magnetic flux leakage testing, Magnetic particle testing.
Full-scale performance test: Hydrostatic pressure test, Collapse test, Make-up and breakout test.
8. Delivery & Service
Packing: Thread protector + Steel bundling + Moisture-proof package to avoid thread damage and rust.
Marking: Steel grade, size, standard, heat number and factory logo with full traceability.
Customization: Custom steel grade, thread type, fixed length and anti-corrosion coating (3PE/FBE/Internal coating).
Delivery Time: Regular specifications 5-7 days, direct delivery from Tianjin & Qingdao warehouse.
