A check valve is a type of valve where the closing element is a circular valve disc that operates by its own weight and medium pressure to preventkflow of the medium. It belongs to the category of automatic valves and is also known as a non-return valve, one-way valve, reflux valve, or isolation valve. The movement e valve disc is divided into two types: lift-check and swing-check. The lift-check valve has a structure similar to a globe valve but lacks a valve stem to actuate t. The medium flows in from the inlet (lower side) and out from the outlet (upper side). When the inlet pressure exceeds the sum of the valve disc's weight and flow rese, the valve opens; conversely, when backflow occurs, the valve closes. The swing-check valve features a tilted valve disc that rotates around an axis, operating on a principle si to the lift-check valve. Check valves are commonly used as foot valves in pumping equipment to prevent water backflow. When used in combination with a globe valve, they can serve a safety isolaton function.

Working Principle Check valves can also be used on supply lines for auxiliary systems where the pressure may rise above the systssure. Check valves are mainly divided into swing check valves (rotating about a pivot) and lift check valves (moving along an axis). The function of this type of valve is w the medium to flow in only one direction and prevent reverse flow. Typically, these valves operate automatically; the pressure of the fluid flowing in one direction opens the valve disc, while wh fluid flows in the reverse direction, the fluid pressure and the weight of the valve disc act on the valve seat to cut off the flow. Check valves belong to this type of valvluding swing check valves and lift check valves. Swing check valves have a hinge mechanism and a valve disc that rests freely against an inclined valve seat surface like a door. To ensure thdisc reaches the correct position on the valve seat surface every time, the valve disc is designed with the hinge mechanism to provide sufficient swing space and ensure true, full contact between thlve disc and the valve seat. The valve disc can be made entirely of metal, or it can be lined with leather, rubber, or a synthetic covering, depending on the performance requir. When fully open, the fluid pressure in a swing check valve is almost unobstructed, resulting in a relatively small pressure drop across the valve. In a lift check valve valve disc sits on a valve seat sealing surface within the valve body. Except for the valve disc being able to move freely up and down, the rest of the valve is simila globe valve. Fluid pressure lifts the valve disc off the valve seat sealing surface, while backflow causes the valve disc to fall back onto the seat and cut off the flow. Depehe operating conditions, the valve disc can be a full metal structure or consist of a rubber pad or ring mounted on a valve disc frame. Like a globe valve, the flow parough a lift check valve is narrow; therefore, the pressure drop across a lift check valve is greater than that of a swing check valve, and the flow rate in a swing check valvs subject to fewer restrictions.
