The pilot-assisted opening balance valve is used to control overrunning loads. It allows oil to flow freely in one direction from the directional valve (port 2) to the load port (port 1), while the direct-acting, pilot-assisted relief valve function can control the flow of liquid from port 1 to port 2. The pilot assistance at port 3 reduces the effective set value of the relief function according to the pilot ratio. This valve is also called a motion control valve or a crossover center valve.
