Dimpled drainage boards, academically often referred to as plastic drainage boards or drainage protection boards, are sheet-like, high-efficiency drainage materials manufactured using modern plastic molding processes. They feature a continuous, regular pattern of raised studs (or cylinders, truncated cones) and supporting ribs, hence the name derived from their "dimpled" three-dimensional surface texture. They are primarily used to replace traditional graded gravel drainage layers, addressing drainage, root barrier, and protection needs in construction, municipal, and transportation engineering.
Utilizes the three-dimensional voids between the studs to create a continuous, pressure-resistant, and unobstructed drainage and air circulation layer. When water percolates down to the drainage board level, it is filtered by the geotextile (if present) and channeled into the spaces between the studs. Under gravity, water can flow rapidly in any direction (thanks to the sheet's continuity) towards pre-designed collection drains or pipes.
