Working Principle:
  • Expanding I/O Points: By adding additional digital and analog I/O points, the system's I/O capacity is expanded to meet the signal access requirements of more on-site equipment in industrial process control. I/O modules can be placed far from the control room, facilitating nearby access for on-site equipment.
  • Remote Communication Connection: Optical fiber is usually used as the transmission medium, leveraging its characteristics of high bandwidth and strong anti-interference capability to communicate with the main controller of the Triconex system via fieldbuses (such as Profibus). A set of three modules (RXM) functions as a unit, supporting communication with remote sites up to 7.5 miles (12 kilometers) away to achieve remote I/O expansion.
  • Redundant Design Ensuring Reliability: A redundant design with redundant optical fiber links is adopted. For example, there are multiple receiving channels (RX1, RX2, RX3, etc.). If one channel fails, other channels can continue working to ensure communication continuity. Meanwhile, the module features a self-diagnostic function to monitor its working status in real-time, detect faults promptly, and issue alarms, facilitating maintenance personnel in troubleshooting and further improving system reliability.
  • Data Transmission and Processing: The remote expansion module receives input signals from on-site equipment, transmits data to the main controller via a triple modular redundant I/O bus. The main controller performs arithmetic processing based on preset control logic, then sends output control signals back to the remote expansion module through the I/O bus. The remote expansion module then outputs these signals to corresponding on-site executive equipment, realizing control over industrial processes.
  • Isolation Protection: As repeaters and expanders for the Tricon I/O bus, RXM sets provide ground loop isolation, effectively preventing electrical interference from on-site equipment due to grounding issues from affecting the normal operation of the system, reducing the impact of electrical faults on the system, and enhancing system stability and safety.
