The process flow of isolation of starch from potato includes: transportation, potato cleaning, washing, grating, separating, concentration and refining, dehydration, drying and packing.
Step 1. Transportation: The potato is transported from the storage yard to the cleaning machine by using a conveyor, and it is required to ensure the sufficient supply of the raw materials of the process. In the process of isolation of starch from potato, it is necessary to prevent the inclusion of iron, nails, stones, wood and other debris. If debris is found, it should be picked up in time.
Step 2. Cleaning and washing: For the question of isolation of starch from potato, potatoes are fed through the feed hopper and transported into cleaning machine for removing the small stones, dirt and other debris of raw materials. After stone removal, potatoes are washed in a rotary washing machine. The potatoes are constantly rolling and rubbing in the water, which can make the soil on the potato peel off to achieve a good washing effect. After washing, potatoes are transported to the temporary storage hopper through the inclined belt conveyor.
Step 3. Grating: As the most process for isolation of starch from potato, the purpose of crushing is to destroy the structure of the potato, so that the tiny starch granules can be smoothly separated from the roots. The starch released from the cells is called free starch and the starch inside the cell in the dregs is called bound starch.
Step 4. Sepateting: The crushed photo contains fiber, protein and other impurities, therefore it need to separate the starch from the impurities. Centrifuge sieve is mainly used machine to separate the fiber and starch slurry. The slurry separation is also an important process for isolation of starch from potato which determines the yield of starch. Therefore this process need to be repeat several times to improve the potato starch content.
Step 5. Concentration and refining: For isolation of starch from potato, hydrocyclone station is widely used for this process. The hydrocyclone station is composed of multistage cyclone in a certain way. According to the processing function of each stage cyclone in the cyclone station, different number of cyclone pipes and a feed pump need to be installed. The whole unit is independent in the process, compact in structure and convenient in installation.
Step 6. Dehydrating: After the concentration and refining process, the concentrated starch milk still contains a large amount of water, and thus must be dehydrated to facilitate drying. At present, the vacuum filter is widely used for dewatering for isolation of starch from potato. It is required that the moisture content of the wet starch after dehydration is less than 38%.
Step 7. Drying and packing: The dehydrated starch cake is transported to the feed inlet of the flash dryer through the conveyor belt and enters the hoist through the feeder. The heat source of flash dryer is steam heat exchanger. The wet starch is heated by the high speed hot air and the water evaporates. After drying of isolation of starch from potato, the wet air leaves the cyclone separator and is discharged into the atmosphere by the ventilator. The collected starch is packaged into finished products by packaging machine.
