Sodium Sulfate Wastewater Evaporator-Crystallizer
Project Overview
With increasingly stringent environmental regulations and growing demand for resource recovery, the treatment of high-salinity industrial wastewater has become a critical challenge across many industries. Conventional biological treatment methods are often ineffective for wastewater containing high concentrations of inorganic salts, such as sodium sulfate, sodium chloride, ammonium sulfate, zinc sulfate, and other dissolved solids.
For such complex high-salinity wastewater, evaporation and crystallization technology provides an effective and reliable approach by removing dissolved salts, reducing wastewater discharge, recovering valuable resources, and enabling zero liquid discharge (ZLD) or compliance with environmental discharge requirements.
Our evaporator-crystallizer systems integrate advanced evaporation and crystallization technologies to deliver efficient wastewater concentration, salt recovery, and sustainable wastewater management solutions.
The systems are widely applied in the chemical, metallurgical, mining, pharmaceutical, and other industrial sectors, helping customers minimize wastewater generation, maximize resource utilization, and achieve long-term environmental compliance.
Advanced Evaporation and Crystallization Technology
Depending on specific wastewater characteristics and project requirements, different evaporation technologies, including Mechanical Vapor Recompression (MVR) and Multiple-Effect Evaporation (MEE), can be applied.
For sodium sulfate wastewater treatment, our systems are designed with special consideration of sodium sulfate’s temperature-dependent solubility characteristics. Advanced process design ensures stable operation, minimizes the risk of salt blockage and scaling, and improves system reliability.
The optimized process configuration is selected based on:
Wastewater composition and salt concentration;
Treatment capacity requirements;
Desired salt recovery rate;
Mother liquor characteristics;
Final discharge or reuse requirements.
Forced Circulation Evaporator-Crystallizer
A forced circulation evaporator-crystallizer system is commonly adopted for sodium sulfate wastewater treatment.
The process principle is as follows:
1. Sodium sulfate wastewater enters the forced circulation evaporator system for progressive concentration;
2. The solution is concentrated until reaching supersaturation conditions;
3. The generated crystal slurry is transferred to a centrifuge for solid-liquid separation;
4. Recovered sodium sulfate crystals are collected for further utilization or treatment;
5. The separated mother liquor is recycled back to the evaporator for further concentration and crystallization.
The forced circulation design provides excellent circulation velocity, effectively preventing crystal deposition and reducing scaling on heat transfer surfaces. This results in:
Stable long-term continuous operation;
Improved heat transfer performance;
Reduced risk of tube blockage;
Extended cleaning intervals;
Higher system reliability.
