Calcium chloride dihydrate production plant produces calcium chloride dihydrate 75~78% from raw material of hydrochloric acid @ 30% and calcium hydroxide or calcium oxide or calcium carbonate.

Project Introduction 

The calcium chloride dihydrate production plant is composed of 4 parts mainly: 

1.Preparation of calcium chloride solution: calcium chloride solution @35% is obtained;

2.Concentration of calcium chloride solution: the calcium chloride solution is concentrated from 35% up to above 68%;

3.Calcium chloride flaking: the concentrate calcium chloride solution is processed into wet calcium chloride dihydrate flakes

4.Calcium chloride drying: the wet calcium chloride dihydrate flakes are dried to 75~78% in the dryer. 

Forced circulation evaporator

It can be get from the solubility curve of calcium chloride in water at different temperature that, the solubility of calcium chloride changes greatly along with the temperature changing, it is very sensitive to the temperature. When the calcium chloride was discharged at high concentration and high temperature, it would become oversaturated if the temperature dropped. According to requirement of the finished product, after concentration reached 68%, the calcium chloride entered into a cooling flaker to be transformed into wet flakes, and then  the wet flakes were send to a fluidized bed dryer to be dried into dry products. 


Structure  & Process 

The plant is composed of a double-effect countercurrent forced circulation evaporator and a single-effect falling film concentrator.   

a.Double-effect countercurrent forced circulation evaporator: the calcium chloride solution keeps dissolved state and of high viscosity during evaporation procedure. In order to keep good flowability and ensure high heat transfer efficiency under high viscosity, forced circulation type evaporator is recommended.   

And the calcium chloride liquor is easy to caking especially at higher concentration. So the material was suggested to be input in effect II and be output at effect I where the temperature was higher. The concentrated calcium chloride liquor has better flowability and lower viscosity at a higher temperature.     

b. An extra single-effect falling film concentrator after the double-effect forced circulation evaporator is able to guarantee the high output concentration and to balance the material flow. The output concentration shall be no less than 68% for producing calcium chloride flakes. In calcium chloride concentration, the output concentration depends on the output temperature, it could reach high output concentration of 68% only when the temperature is high enough. In order to keep  the high output temperature, an extra single-effect falling film concentrator is required after evaporation system and before the cooling flaker.  

c. The boiling point of calcium chloride liquor increases greatly along with concentration rising. When the concentration at 68-70%, the temperature shall be up to 170℃ so as to guarantee the evaporation performance. Both the falling film concentrator and the effect I heater shall be pressure vessel to bear high pressure of 1.3Mpa and high temperature of 191℃. 

Rotary drum flaker Design Condition

① Material name: calcium chloride dihydrate liquid;

② Liquid concentration (wt): 68~72%;

③ Feed liquid temperature (°C): 175;

④ Material density (Kg / m3): about 1780;

⑤ Temperature and pressure of Insulated steam of the feed liquid: 223.96 ℃, pressure 2.5 MPa (gauge pressure).

⑥ Equipment operation mode: continuous operation. 

Structure and Performance 

① Rotating drum 

The drum is composed of a drum surface, end plates, a driving shaft, a driven shaft, a supporting ring and a reinforcing rib. The drum surface is made of 2205 type stainless steel, and the driving shaft and driven shaft are made of Q345R wrapping with 2205 type stainless steel. The drum surface is machined from a 2205 type stainless steel plate of thickness 16mm. The end plates of drum are made of 2205 type stainless steel plate of thickness 8mm, and are reinforced with Q235-B steel plate of thickness 20mm thick to ensure sufficient strength and rigidity of the drum surface. The roughness of the working surface of the drum surface  and the end plates is Ra0.8. The concentricity of drum surface and the main shaft is ≤0.1mm, the radial runout over the entire length of the drum surface is ≤0.1 mm. The service life of rotating drum is 6-8 years.

② Cooling system

Multi-channel cooling mode is adopted. It consists of  semi-pipes, central pipe hole, an inlet pipe, a distribution pipe, and an outlet pipe. The material is S31603 stainless steel. The concentricity of the distribution pipe, inlet pipe and outlet pipe is ≤ 0.05mm, no internal or external leakage shall take place in the cooling system. The service life of cooling system is 10 years. 

③ Scraper system

a)The scraper system is consisted of: main scraper, side scraper,scraper rack, scraper bar, scraper holder, adjusting hand wheel, positioning shaft, supporting seat, guide plate, upper cover and related accessories. All components are made of S31603 stainless steel. And there are 2sets of main scrapers and side scrapers.
