1. Product Introduction
An Overflow Ball Mill is a widely used fine-grinding machine in mineral processing plants. Its defining feature is its simple, open discharge mechanism: the mill relies purely on hydraulic displacement to discharge material. As slurry builds up inside the rotating drum, it naturally overflows out through the hollow trunnion at the discharge end. It is typically used in the second stage of a grinding circuit or for applications requiring ultra-fine particle liberation.
2. Working Principle
Simple & Reliable Structure: With no complex discharge grate plates or internal lifting vanes, it has fewer moving parts, making it highly reliable and less prone to mechanical failure.
Low Maintenance Costs: The absence of a discharge grate eliminates the risk of grate slots clogging (blinding) with broken steel balls or coarse ore, greatly reducing downtime and maintenance labor.
Ideal for Fine Grinding: Because the slurry remains inside the mill longer before overflowing, it undergoes prolonged attrition, making it excellent for achieving ultra-fine particle sizes.
Longer Liner & Media Lifespan: The mill maintains a higher slurry level inside, which cushions the impact of the steel balls against the liners, significantly reducing wear and tear.
3. Industrial Line Advantages
Feeding: Crushed mineral ore and process water are continuously fed into the horizontal cylinder through the hollow shaft at the feed end.
Grinding Action: As the cylinder rotates, internal wear-resistant liners lift the steel grinding balls. The balls cascade down to shatter the ore via impact, while sliding against each other to pulverize it via attrition (friction).
Natural Overflow Discharge: As new material and water are constantly added, the internal slurry level rises. When the slurry level exceeds the bottom line of the discharge trunnion, the sufficiently ground, fine mineral pulp naturally overflows and exits the mill by gravity. Coarser, heavier particles stay at the bottom to receive further grinding.
