Dry Grinding Ball Mill for Mining Plant
dry grinding ball mill for mining plant
1. Product Introduction
A Dry Grinding Ball Mill is a crucial piece of equipment used in mining plants to grind dry mineral ores and other materials into fine powders. Unlike wet grinding, this process is carried out entirely without adding water or liquids.
It is widely used in mining sectors where moisture must be strictly avoided, or where the subsequent processing steps require dry materials. This includes the processing of cement, silicate products, new building materials, refractories, fertilizers, glass ceramics, and various arid or moisture-sensitive ores (such as certain industrial minerals, quartz, and limestone). The mill consists of a feeding part, a discharging part, a rotary shell, a transmission gear, and a motor.
2. Working Principle
While wet grinding is common in metallic ore beneficiation, dry grinding offers distinct and irreplaceable advantages for specific mining plant operations:
No Moisture Contamination: Ideal for materials that react chemically with water, cake up when wet, or require a completely dry powder state for the next industrial phase (e.g., dry magnetic separation or cement production).
High Product Purity: Because there is no water to cause rust or accelerated chemical wear on the steel balls and liners, dry grinding can sometimes reduce certain types of fluid-based chemical contamination.
Integrated Air Classification: Dry ball mills are easily paired with air classifiers (wind separators). This setup creates a closed-circuit system that instantly draws out qualified fine powders, preventing over-grinding and ensuring a very narrow, controllable particle size distribution.
Savings on Drying Costs: If the final product must be a dry powder, using a dry mill eliminates the need for expensive, energy-consuming dewatering systems, filters, and rotary dryers downstream.
Minimal Environmental Impact from Wastewater: Since no water is used, mining plants do not need to build complex tailings dams or water treatment facilities to handle contaminated process water.
3. Industrial Line Advantages
The working principle of a dry ball mill relies on impact and attrition, assisted by a continuous air-flow system to move the dry powder through the machine.
Step-by-Step Process:
Feeding: The completely dry, crushed mineral ore is fed into the first chamber of the rotating cylinder through a hollow shaft via a feeding device.
Lifting & Impact (First Chamber): The inner lining of the cylinder features stepped or waved liners. As the cylinder rotates, centrifugal force lifts the grinding media (steel balls of larger diameters) to a certain height. The balls then fall down, exerting a heavy impact force to crush the larger ore pieces.
Secondary Grinding (Second Chamber): The material passes through a monolayer partition board into the second chamber. This chamber is typically lined with flat liners and filled with smaller steel balls or steel segments. Here, the material is further ground by attrition (friction) and shearing forces into a fine powder.
Air-Assisted Discharge: In dry grinding, a draft fan at the discharge end creates a negative pressure airflow. This air current draws the fine, airborne powder out through the discharge grate and hollow shaft, moving it toward an air classifier or cyclone collector to separate the qualified product from the coarse particles (which are returned for re-grinding).
