Detailed Specification‑Steel Billet


1.Product Overview


Steel billet is continuous‑cast semi‑finished product from liquid steel. It serves as the upstream raw material for wire rod, rebar, round bar and sectional steel. Major categories include square billet, rectangular bloom and round billet. Adopted standards cover GB/T20112, ASTM and EN specifications. Typical grades include Q235B,45#,SAE1008,82B,S355JR.


2.Classification


2.1 Cross‑section type


1. Square billet: Common dimensions 120×120mm,130×130mm,150×150mm,165×165mm, applied for rebar and high‑carbon wire rod for steel‑strand production.


2. Rectangular bloom: Large‑size blank for heavy‑diameter steel bar and thick structural plate.


3. Round billet: Raw material for seamless tubes and forged mechanical parts.


2.2 Steel‑grade grouping


1. Low‑carbon billet (Q195,Q235B,SAE1008): For ordinary wire and construction rebar.


2. Medium‑carbon billet (45#,S45C): Machining‑purpose solid bar.


3. High‑carbon 82B billet: Exclusive feedstock for prestressed‑steel‑strand wire rod.


4. Low‑alloy billet (S355JR,42CrMo): High‑strength structural and mechanical‑component steel.


2.3 Production process category


Continuous‑cast billet: Cost‑effective bulk‑production grade with steady metallurgical property.

Forged ingot billet: Denser internal structure for premium‑grade forging.


3.Chemical‑composition requirements


Main alloying elements: C,Si,Mn. Ordinary carbon steel: P≤0.035%,S≤0.035%. Low‑impurity grades are supplied for cold‑drawing and cold‑heading applications. Mill test report covers full elemental analysis.


4.Dimensional tolerance and surface standard


1. Section tolerance ±2‑4 mm. Standard lengths range from 6‑12 m or custom cut‑to‑size lengths.


2. Surface condition: No deep cracks, overlaps, scabs or serious pitting. Minor flaws are grindable. Internal quality excludes severe central shrinkage and segregation. UT inspection can be arranged upon buyer’s request.


3. Straightness: Total bend below 0.5% of overall length.


5.Manufacturing process


Converter / electric‑furnace steel‑making → continuous casting → fixed‑length cutting → visual inspection → stacking → shipment.

9.Storage & transport


Store on raised ground with waterproof covering to prevent rust. Avoid heavy collision during loading. Keep different heat lots separated.
