Indirect heating dryers are classified into two types: externally heated and internally heated. In both configurations, the material being dried does not come into direct contact with the heat-transfer medium, thereby completely eliminating the risk of secondary contamination. In the internally heated type, the heat carrier consists of high-temperature flue gas; this gas flows from a central radial fire tube into a network of heat-exchange tubes distributed throughout the dryer, then returns via return tubes to the inlet end, from where it is drawn out and exhausted by an induced-draft fan. This design significantly enhances heat-transfer efficiency. The material to be dried is fed in at the high end of the unit, spreading into the cavities situated between the central fire tube, the radial flues, and the lifting flights, where it undergoes the processes of heat and mass transfer. Once dried, the material is discharged from the lower end of the dryer via a discharge box. For the externally heated type, the heat carrier may be either electric heating elements or high-temperature flue gas; the moisture-laden gas generated during the drying process is exhausted through the dryer shell at the high end by a dedicated moisture-exhaust fan. This drying unit comprises the following main components: a combustion chamber, the main dryer body, a flue gas exhaust system (including an induced-draft fan, ductwork, and a dust collector), and a moisture exhaust system (including an exhaust fan, ductwork, and a dust collector). This machine represents a traditional type of drying apparatus and is classified as a form of rotary dryer.
High Efficiency and Energy Saving
· High Thermal Efficiency: Thermal efficiency can reach 80%–85%, with some models reaching as high as 90%—significantly higher than equipment such as flash dryers or spray dryers.
· High Evaporation Intensity: The heat and mass transfer processes of wet materials on the cylinder wall proceed in the same direction; coupled with a significant temperature gradient, evaporation intensity can reach 30–70 kg/m³·h.
· Low Energy Consumption: Features low fuel consumption and low drying costs, making it suitable for large-scale, continuous production.
5.2. Strong Adaptability
· Wide Temperature Range: The operating temperature ranges from 150°C to 850°C, capable of meeting the drying requirements of various materials.
· Excellent Material Adaptability: Capable of processing materials in various forms—including lumps, powders, and mixtures—as well as materials with varying moisture gradients and hardness levels.
· Flexible Heat Sources: Supports a variety of heat sources, including coal, natural gas, fuel oil, wood, and electric heating.
5.3. Stable Product Quality
· The heating method is easy to control, allowing the internal temperature of the cylinder and the heat transfer rate across the partition walls to remain relatively stable.
· Ensures excellent drying uniformity in the final product, with moisture content reducible to a range of 0.1%–15%.
5.4. Structural Advantages
· Features a self-aligning trunnion wheel structure; the precise fit between the trunnion wheels and the riding rings minimizes wear and reduces power consumption.
· Incorporates a specially designed thrust roller structure to effectively mitigate the horizontal thrust generated by the equipment's inclined operation.
· Possesses strong overload resistance; the cylinder operates smoothly, ensuring high reliability.
5.5. Applicable Materials
· Mining & Metallurgy: Ores, blast furnace slag, pulverized coal, metal powders, phosphate fertilizers, ammonium sulfate, coal slime, quartz, feldspar, etc.
· Chemical & Pharmaceutical: Sodium chloride, sugar residue, fish meal, corn steep liquor, starch residue, distiller's grains, etc.
· Agriculture & Feed: Crop stalks, forage grass, leaves, livestock and poultry manure, organic fertilizers, sewage sludge, bean dregs, etc.
VI. Equipment Structure and Components
6.1. Core Components
· Rotating Drum: The drum is constructed from Q235B carbon steel or 304 stainless steel, with lifters or flow-guiding structures installed on its inner wall.
· Lifter System: Features a segmented design (the front section utilizes forward-propelling lifters to boost throughput, while the middle section employs various types of lifters to maximize thermal efficiency).
· Drive Mechanism: Driven by a motor via a pulley or gear train; rotational speed typically ranges from 3 to 8 rpm.
· Support Mechanism: Consists of a main support roller assembly (cast steel) paired with a thrust roller assembly to support the drum's rotation.
· Sealing System: Features a combination of end-face labyrinth seals and fish-scale seals, ensuring an air leakage rate of less than 2%.
6.2. Auxiliary Systems
· Feeding/Discharging System: The feed/discharge housing is constructed from Q235B carbon steel or 304 stainless steel, with lifters or flow-guiding structures installed on its inner wall.
· Dust Removal System: Integrates a cyclone separator or bag filter; dust emissions are maintained at ≤ 30 mg/m³.
· Drive Mechanism: Driven by a motor via a pulley or gear train; rotational speed typically ranges from 3 to 8 rpm.
· Heat Source System: Includes options such as hot air furnaces, gas heating units, steam heat exchangers, etc.
· Control System: Features PLC-based automatic control (supporting manual, automatic, and DCS central control modes), equipped with over-temperature alarms and overload protection functions.
