Iridium (Ir) is the most corrosion-resistant metal in the platinum group, extremely hard yet brittle. 

Its core applications are highly concentrated in high-temperature, highly corrosive, and precision-critical fields: 

High-temperature crucibles: Utilizing its high melting point and oxidation resistance, it is used to grow high-purity synthetic gemstone crystals (such as sapphire screens and watch crystals) and laser crystals (YAG). 

Hardening and contacts: As a platinum reinforcing agent (platinum-iridium alloy), it is used in spark plug electrodes (ensuring high ignition performance), aero-engines, and pen nibs (wear-resistant and providing good ink flow). Corrosion-resistant components: Utilizing its extremely strong corrosion resistance, it is used to manufacture special electrochemical anodes (for the chlor-alkali industry and PCB plating), as well as special experimental crucibles (for drawing optical fibers). 

Medical and probe applications: Utilizing its biocompatibility and high hardness, it is used in radiation-induced cancer treatment needles and precision neural electrodes. 

 Aerospace propulsion: Used as an ignition material in spacecraft propulsion systems.
