Silicon Steel Product Introduction
Silicon steel, also known as electrical steel or silicon steel sheet, is a low-carbon soft magnetic alloy with a silicon content of 0.5%–4.5%. It is the core magnetic material for motors, transformers, generators and other electrical equipment, known as "the pearl in the crown of the steel industry".
1. Core Properties
High magnetic permeability: Easy to magnetize with strong magnetic conductivity.
Low core loss: Low hysteresis and eddy current loss, energy-saving and efficient.
High electrical resistivity: Silicon improves resistance and reduces eddy current heating.
Good processability: Can be stamped, sheared and laminated.
2. Main Classification by Grain Orientation
2.1 Non-Oriented Silicon Steel (CRNGO)
Grain structure: Randomly oriented, isotropic magnetic properties.
Silicon content: 0.5%–3.5%.
Thickness: 0.35mm, 0.50mm (conventional); 0.10–0.20mm (for new energy).
Features: High mechanical strength, easy stamping, moderate cost.
Applications: New energy vehicle drive motors, industrial motors, fans, pumps, compressors, household appliance motors, generators, small and special motors.
2.2 Grain-Oriented Silicon Steel (CRGO)
Grain structure: Highly oriented (Goss texture), optimal magnetic properties along rolling direction.
Silicon content: 2.9%–3.3%.
Thickness: 0.23mm, 0.27mm, 0.30mm.
Features: Ultra-low core loss, high magnetic induction, high performance.
Applications: Power transformers, reactors, instrument transformers, traction transformers, rectifier transformers.
3. Classification by Silicon Content
Low-silicon steel (0.5%–2.5%): Good toughness, easy processing, used for motors.
Medium-silicon steel (2.5%–4.5%): Low loss, good magnetism, used for transformers.
High-silicon steel (4.5%–6.5%): Ultra-low eddy current loss, used for high-frequency equipment.
4. Main Grades
Non-oriented: 50WW470, 50WW350, 35WW300, 20WW250 (lower number = lower loss = higher grade).
Oriented: 30Q120, 27Q110, 23Q100, 20Q90 (lower number = lower loss).
5. Production Process
Non-oriented: Smelting → Hot rolling → Cold rolling → Annealing → Coating.
Oriented: Smelting → Hot rolling → Normalizing → Cold rolling → Decarburization annealing → High-temperature annealing → Coating.
6. Key Performance Parameters
Core loss (P): Loss per unit weight (W/kg), the lower the better.
Magnetic induction (B): Magnetic flux density (T), the higher the better.
Thickness: 0.10–0.50mm (thinner = lower high-frequency loss).
Coating: Insulating, rust-proof, heat-resistant.
7. Applications
Power transmission: Transformers, reactors, instrument transformers.
New energy: EV motors, wind & photovoltaic inverters, charging piles.
Industrial equipment: Motors, generators, pumps, fans, compressors.
Home appliances: Air conditioners, refrigerators, washing machines, fans.
Electronic devices: Power supplies, relays, sensors, electromagnetic shielding
