The thermocouple is a self-powered temperature sensor that generates a voltage signal proportional to temperature differences between its two junctions. Utilizing the Seebeck effect principle, they generate self-powered voltage signals proportional to temperature gradients. Comprising two dissimilar metal wires (e.g., nickel-chromium, platinum-rhodium) joined at one end (the hot junction), it measures temperatures from –200°C to 2,315°C, making it ideal for extreme environments where other sensors fail.

Widely used in industries like plastics processing, aerospace, and pharmaceuticals, thermocouples offer interchangeability, rapid response times, and robustness against vibrations and corrosion.
