GCC certification comes in two types, which we will now introduce separately.

The first is the GCC certification for the seven Gulf nations, also known as G-MARK certification or GSO certification—these three abbreviations refer to the same certification.

GCC: Stands for the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf.

GSO: Stands for GCC Standardization Organization, a regional standardization body established by resolution of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf. Its members include the United Arab Emirates, the Kingdom of Bahrain, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Sultanate of Oman, the State of Qatar, the State of Kuwait, and the Republic of Yemen. These seven member states are commonly referred to as the GCC member countries.

G-MARK: The GCC certification mark. Products registered with GCC certification bear this G-MARK certification label, featuring a registration number and QR code beneath the mark.

The second type of GCC certification is the U.S. GCC certification, also known as the General Conformity Certification.

CPSIA Section 102(a)(1) stipulates that as of November 12, 2008, all consumer products regulated by the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) must be accompanied by a General Conformity Certificate (GCC) issued by the domestic manufacturer or importer to be distributed in the U.S. market. Each shipment must be accompanied by a certificate. Each GCC corresponds to one product and must be provided upon request for review by the CPSC and Customs. The GCC certificate is mandatory for importing applicable products into the United States.
