8. Corrosion effects
The corrosive gases on site, as well as some buildings built by the seaside (such as nuclear power plants) corroded by sea winds, often have a fatal impact on DCS boards and operating station computers. Severe corrosion in industrial environments often leads to short circuits in electronic components on DCS boards and computer motherboards, resulting in damage to equipment hardware.
9. Lightning impact
When the direct lightning protection device of the control room building is connected to a lightning, a strong instantaneous lightning current flows into the grounding device through the down lead, causing local ground potential to fluctuate. If the lightning protection grounding device is independent and there is not enough distance between it and the grounding electrode of the control system, discharge (counterattack) will occur between the two, causing interference or damage to the DCS in the control room.

Firstly, attention must be paid to the engineering design and construction phase before DCS installation. It is difficult to retrofit the DCS after it is put into operation, such as lightning protection, grounding shielding, etc. Therefore, it is far better to take corresponding measures after problems occur than before. Reasonable grounding structure should be selected in design, such as using equipotential single point grounding method; During construction, the correct grounding connection method should be used in accordance with relevant standards and specifications.
Secondly, some issues discovered in applications should be promptly addressed on site. A more effective measure for electromagnetic interference problems is to cut off the propagation path between the interference source and DCS. If the control room adopts grid shielding, filter devices are installed on the signal cables to ensure that the wiring of signal cables and power cables follows corresponding standard specifications, and SPD devices are installed to prevent lightning surge invasion.
Thirdly, operations must be strictly carried out in accordance with regulations. For static electricity issues, it is necessary to strictly implement the reason for wearing an anti-static wrist strap when inserting and unplugging cards; Use dedicated anti-static bags to store spare parts such as boards and cards
