German technical background  VOK®-410 rheology

VOK®-410 is a liquid rheology additive for solventborne and solventborne systems and is also suitable for PVC plastisols and naturally curing resin systems.

This results in a high thixotropic effect and thus improved anti-settling and anti-sagging properties. Can be added later.

Product information

Chemical composition

Modified urea solution

Typical physicochemical data

The data presented on this data page is typical and not a product specification.

Active ingredient: 52%

Density (20 °C): 1.13 g/ml

Solvent: N-methylpyrrolidone

Flash point: 91 °C

Storage and transportation

Sensitive to moisture, dry storage. Slight turbidity during storage does not affect the rheological effect.

Application information

Coatings industry

Features and benefits

When mixed into the coating system, the additive builds up a three-dimensional structure. The resulting thixotropic fluidity prevents settling and improves sagging resistance without affecting leveling.

Recommended dosage

0.2-1% of the total formulation (supply form) can be anti-settling.

0.5-2% of the total formulation (supplied form) is used to prevent sagging, which is affected by the polarity and intrinsic content of the system.

The above data are empirical dosages, and good dosages need to be determined through a series of tests.

Joining methods and processing instructions

Cut appropriately, add while stirring, and disperse evenly as soon as possible. No special temperature control is required. It can be added after the grinding stage or the paint mixing stage to adjust the viscosity.

If the product is compatible with the system well, the rheological effect can be evaluated after 2 to 4 hours after addition, depending on the polarity. Recommended for medium-polar systems. VOK®-411 is suitable for non-polar systems and VOK®-420 is suitable for high polar and waterborne systems.

Pay special attention

The use of driers may cause discoloration due to the formation of metal complexes, and the rheological properties need to be tested. There is no yellowing when adding the standard amount.

If the amount is too high, you need to pay attention to yellowing. When used in reactions, catalytic systems and nitrocellulose systems, we recommend testing storage stability.

PVC plastisol

Features and benefits

Can be used in PVC plastisols to improve thixotropy. Improve anti-settling and anti-sagging properties, and improve processing efficiency.

VOK®-410 reduces the tendency of colored plastisols to float and flower. There will be a bubble stabilization effect.

Recommended dosage

PVC resin 0.1-0.5phr (supplied form) is resistant to settling and floating color.

0.3-1 phr (supplied form) of PVC resin is used to prevent sagging.

You can join up to 3phr.

The above data are empirical dosages, and good dosages need to be determined through a series of tests.

 Recommended dosage of PVC plastisol

0.2-1% of the total formulation (supply form) can be anti-settling.

0.5-2% of the total formula (in the form of supply) is used to improve the anti-sagging.

The above data are empirical dosages, and good dosages need to be determined through a series of tests.

Joining methods and processing instructions

Cut appropriately, add while stirring, and disperse evenly as soon as possible. No special temperature control is required. It can be added after the grinding or mixing stage.

Pay special attention

Sharing with metal catalysts may cause discoloration or delay curing. Different, thixotropic structures can begin to form after up to 4 hours. But then the structure can be rebuilt in an instant
