Ram Vilas paswan, Minister of consumer affairs, said that after the Indian Bureau of standards had prepared the Ministry of Commerce's regulations on high-quality imports, many unqualified and non essential imports would be stopped from March 2021. According to the report, the 371 tax items cover a number of sub areas, from steel, chemical, pharmaceutical, electrical machinery to furniture and toys. Pramod Kumar Tiwari, director general of BIS, further said: India's Ministry of Commerce has determined tariffs on 371 commodities, including Chinese goods. We are working to speed up the establishment of these mandatory standards to strengthen import requirements and improve law enforcement at all government ports, including kandla, jnpt and Cochin. BIS will send relevant personnel together with customs officers to carry out on-site inspection of the goods at the port. Tiwari added that mandatory certification standards for most products will be developed by December and the rest by March 2021.
