Industry Pain Points and Solutions

In the manufacturing of electronic vacuum devices, ceramic-metal sealing, and precision instruments, the mismatch between the thermal expansion coefficient of materials and that of ceramics or glass is the core problem leading to package cracking and airtightness failure. Traditional stainless steel or ordinary alloys undergo significant dimensional changes at high temperatures, and the residual magnetism can interfere with precise electronic signals, seriously affecting product yield and service life. Liaocheng Jincheng Yangming Special Steel Co., Ltd. has been deeply involved in the special steel field for many years. In response to the above pain points, relying on advanced vacuum melting and controlled rolling and cooling technologies, it has launched the Non-magnetic Constant Expansion Porcelain 4J80 Alloy Bar (also known as 4J80 Soft Magnetic Alloy Round Steel). This product achieves a linear expansion coefficient similar to that of 95% alumina ceramic (about 4.7 - 5.5×10⁻⁶/℃) by precisely controlling the proportion of elements such as iron, nickel, and cobalt, while maintaining an extremely low residual magnetic permeability (μ ≤ 1.005), thus solving the problems of thermal stress cracking and electromagnetic interference at the source. The company adopts a service model of "guaranteed quality, non-standard customization available, and support for cutting and retail sales" to help users conduct small-batch trial production and rapid verification, reducing the R & D cycle and inventory costs.

Product Working Mechanism and Technical Features

  • Controllable Expansion Coefficient: The 4J80 alloy maintains a stable expansion curve in the range of -60℃ to 600℃ by adjusting the nickel and cobalt content, achieving synchronous expansion and contraction with various ceramics and glasses, and avoiding cracks at the sealing interface.
  • Non-magnetic Performance Guarantee: After special heat treatment, the alloy presents an austenitic structure with a relative magnetic permeability of less than 1.005, meeting the strict requirements of precision electronic components for a non-magnetic environment.
  • Processing Adaptability: The bar can undergo conventional mechanical processing such as turning, milling, drilling, and grinding. It can also obtain special-shaped parts through wire cutting and laser cutting, with a surface roughness of up to Ra0.8μm, facilitating subsequent gold-plating and nickel-plating processes.
  • Quality Control System: Each batch of products is tested for chemical composition, expansion coefficient, magnetic permeability, and mechanical properties according to the GB/T 15017 - 2008 standard, and a third - party material report is provided.

Typical Technical Parameters (reference values, which can be adjusted according to customer needs)

Core advantages and services

  • Non-standard customization ability: Whether it is an irregular cross-section, special length or fine-tuning of composite components, it can be customized in batches according to drawings or samples, with a minimum order quantity as low as 1 piece.
  • Quality guarantee commitment: The expansion coefficient and magnetism are 100% tested before shipment, and substandard products will not leave the factory; products can be returned or exchanged in case of quality disputes.
  • Flexible cutting for retail: Supporting sawing and wire cutting to provide blanks or finished parts on demand, with no minimum order quantity, meeting the needs of R & D and maintenance.

FAQ: Answers to Common Questions from Professional Buyers

1. What are the main differences between 4J80 and ordinary 4J29 (Kovar alloy)? Answer: 4J80 has a lower cobalt content (about 4%), and its expansion coefficient is slightly higher than that of 4J29. It is mainly used for matching 85% - 95% alumina ceramics; while 4J29 (about 5% Co) is more suitable for matching hard glass. The two cannot be mixed, and the choice should be based on the sealing object.

2. Can your company's 4J80 bars ensure non-magnetism after long-term high-temperature service? Answer: 4J80 belongs to the iron-nickel-based austenitic alloy. It has stable structure during long-term use from -60℃ to +600℃, and its magnetic permeability does not deteriorate significantly with the increase of temperature. However, we recommend regular magnetic sampling inspection in key equipment to ensure consistency.

3. What is the minimum diameter for non-standard customization? How much can the diameter tolerance be controlled? Answer: The minimum diameter can be φ8mm (communication in advance is required). The tolerance of the cold-drawn and ground state can be controlled within ±0.05mm; the tolerance of the hot-forged black bar is ±1.5mm. We can formulate exclusive tolerance zones according to the user's drawing requirements.

4. Do you support small-batch trial cutting? What are the charging rules for trial-cut samples? Answer: Yes. The single-piece cutting length should be ≥50mm. Only the material cost and processing fee will be charged; if the subsequent formal order exceeds 100kg, the sample fee can be waived.

5. Can your company provide SGS or third-party authoritative testing reports? Answer: Yes. Before each shipment, we entrust a qualified laboratory to test the expansion coefficient, magnetic permeability and chemical composition, and attach a CNAS-approved report with the goods (additional fees are required and can be negotiated).

6. What is the outgassing rate of 4J80 bars in a vacuum environment? Are they suitable for ultra-high vacuum systems? Answer: After vacuum melting and cleaning treatment, 4J80 has a very low outgassing rate, which meets the vacuum application of the 10⁻⁶Pa level. However, if it is used in an ultra-high vacuum above 10⁻⁸Pa, it is recommended to choose a higher-purity vacuum-grade alloy.

7. Can this alloy be subjected to subsequent electroplating or brazing treatment? What should be noted? Answer: Yes. The surface of 4J80 can be gold-plated or nickel-plated. Silver-copper brazing filler metal is recommended for brazing. Note that the pre-treatment should thoroughly degrease and activate the surface to avoid blistering of the coating or poor wetting during brazing.

8. If non-standard lengths are ordered, what is the general delivery cycle? Answer: Conventional specifications (diameter ≤80mm) are in sufficient stock, and will be shipped within 1 - 3 working days after cutting; non-standard customization (special composition or large diameter) takes 15 - 20 working days. Please confirm the real-time progress with our sales department for specific details.
