Working Mechanism and Product Features
UNS S30815 (253MA) belongs to the Fe-Ni-Cr-N-RE series of austenitic heat-resistant stainless steels. Its core strengthening mechanism is:
- Solid-solution Strengthening of Nitrogen Element: The addition of nitrogen effectively improves the high-temperature strength and creep resistance of the steel, and at the same time reduces the tendency of ferrite formation, ensuring the stability of the structure.
- Modification of Rare Earth Cerium (Ce): Trace rare earth elements significantly improve the adhesion of the oxide film, form a dense Cr₂O₃ protective layer, slow down the diffusion of oxygen and sulfur at high temperatures, and the oxidation resistance temperature can reach 1150°C.
- Reasonable Carbon-Chromium Ratio: Controlling the carbon content ≤ 0.08% avoids chromium depletion at grain boundaries, and at the same time, in combination with elements such as molybdenum and silicon, it improves the carburization resistance and chloride corrosion resistance.
- Long-term service temperature range: 850 - 1100°C, and it can reach 1150°C for intermittent use.
- Excellent high-temperature oxidation resistance, sulfidation resistance, and molten salt corrosion resistance.

A: Yes, they are the same material. 253MA is the commercial name, and UNS S30815 is the unified numbering system. Usually, they comply with ASTM A276 (bars) or ASTM A479 (bars for pressure vessels), and can also be customized according to GB/T 1220 - 2007. -
Q2: Can this material be used in a sulfur-containing atmosphere? How is its sulfidation resistance?
