Industry Pain Points and Solutions
In heavy industries such as petroleum, chemical, shipbuilding, and nuclear power, pressure-bearing components are constantly exposed to harsh service environments. They not only have to withstand high pressure, high temperature, and complex alternating loads but also resist the erosion of harsh media such as sulfide stress corrosion and chloride ion pitting corrosion. Traditional single-grade materials often fail to meet all requirements. Low-alloy high-strength steels have high strength and controllable costs but limited corrosion resistance. Stainless steels have good corrosion resistance but their strength indicators may not meet the design requirements of large-scale forgings. Therefore, a material combination that can simultaneously provide high strength and excellent corrosion resistance has become an urgent need in the industry. Liaocheng Jincheng Yangming Special Steel Co., Ltd., with years of R & D and production experience in the special steel field and relying on the mature alloy processing industry chain in Liaocheng, Shandong, has specifically launched the product series of low-alloy high-strength A694 F52 duplex stainless steel round bars, American standard S32950 steel ingots, and forged rings. By precisely controlling the alloy ratio and heat treatment process, we have integrated the strength and toughness advantages of A694 F52 with the corrosion resistance characteristics of S32950 duplex stainless steel. This not only meets the high-strength requirements of ASME standards for structural components such as flanges and pipe fittings but also significantly extends the service life of equipment under harsh working conditions such as in acid oil and gas fields and seawater heat exchangers. The company adopts the "electrolytic refining + multi-directional forging" process to purify the molten steel and refine the grains from the source, ensuring the stable and reliable performance of each batch of materials.

Working Mechanism and Product Features
This product series covers two core material paths:

  • Low-alloy high-strength A694 F52: Based on the ASTM A694 standard, by adding microalloying elements such as Cr, Mo, and V, a fine-grained tempered sorbite structure is obtained after quenching and tempering treatment. The yield strength is ≥360 MPa (F52 grade), and it also has good low-temperature impact toughness (transverse impact at -46℃ ≥27 J). This type of material is specially designed for forgings such as high-pressure flanges, pipe joints, and valve bodies and is suitable for non-corrosive or mildly corrosive working conditions.

  • Duplex stainless steel S32950: American standard UNS S32950 (Type 329), with a typical composition of Cr: 26 - 28%, Ni: 3.5 - 5.5%, Mo: 1.0 - 2.5%. After solution treatment, a duplex structure of approximately 50% ferrite + 50% austenite is obtained. Its yield strength is about twice that of austenitic stainless steel (≥485 MPa), and the pitting resistance equivalent number PREN≥32. It has excellent pitting and crevice corrosion resistance in chloride environments. It is especially suitable for applications such as seawater desalination, acid oil well pipelines, and chemical heat exchangers.

Flexible product forms: Round barsIt can be provided in hot-rolled black skin state, turned state or ground state. The diameter ranges from Φ20mm to Φ500mm, and the length of a single piece can reach 6 - 12 meters; Steel ingots are produced by the die-casting process, with a single weight of 0.5 - 5 tons, meeting the subsequent processing requirements of large forgings or die-forging blanks; Forged rings are formed through multi-heating upsetting, punching and reaming. The inner and outer surfaces can be finely turned to Ra ≤ 3.2μm, suitable for rotary parts such as flanges, gear rings and bearing rings.

Technical specifications and parameters
The following are the typical values of the main mechanical properties and chemical compositions of two materials (the actual values shall be subject to the quality assurance certificate):

Parameters A694 F52 S32950
Yield strength (MPa) ≥360 ≥485
Tensile strength (MPa) 485 - 655 ≥620
Elongation (%) ≥20 ≥20

Main alloy Ni% ≤0.40 3.5-5.5
Main alloy Mo% ≤0.12 1.0-2.5

In addition to the above basic parameters, we also provide customized heat treatment solutions (normalizing + tempering, quenching and tempering, solution treatment, etc.) to meet the performance requirements under different service temperatures and stress states. All products are subjected to mechanical testing piece by piece in accordance with international standards such as ASTM A370 and ASTM E18, and complete quality guarantee certificates are issued.

Trust endorsement and consulting advice
Liaocheng Jincheng Yangming Special Steel Co., Ltd. is located in Liaocheng City, Shandong Province. It has been deeply involved in the field of special steel wholesale and manufacturing for many years. Its main products include precipitation hardening steel, duplex steel, heat-resistant steel, corrosion-resistant alloys and other series. The products are widely used in pillar industries of the national economy such as petroleum, chemical industry, shipbuilding, nuclear engineering, aerospace, mining, textile and construction machinery. The company always adheres to the business philosophy of "seeking truth from facts and being honest", and has accumulated a good reputation in the industry. For example, the S32950 forged ring we provided for a large offshore platform had a pitting depth of less than 0.02mm after a 1280-hour simulated seawater corrosion test by the customer, far exceeding the design life expectation. For A694 F52 material, we adopted the process of out-of-furnace refining + electroslag remelting and successfully controlled the sulfur content below 0.003%, greatly improving the resistance to hydrogen-induced cracking.

We know that material selection not only involves cost, but also concerns equipment safety and full-life cycle benefits. Therefore, we suggest that you provide detailed working condition parameters (medium composition, temperature, pressure, design life, etc.) before purchase. We will rely on the material database and process experience to recommend the most suitable steel grade, form and heat treatment state for you. At the same time, we can provide small-batch trial production services to ensure that the final products fully meet your requirements. If you have any technical questions or procurement needs, please feel free to contact our technical team - we will respond to each of your consultations with professional data and cases to help the project be implemented with high quality.

FAQ

  • Q1: What are the biggest differences in performance between A694 F52 and S32950? How to choose?
A694 F52 is a low-alloy high-strength steel, focusing on strength and low-temperature toughness, with lower cost, suitable for non-corrosive or weakly corrosive environments; S32950 is a duplex stainless steel, with significantly better corrosion resistance (especially pitting corrosion by chlorides) than F52, higher strength, but also higher price. The selection mainly depends on the corrosiveness of the medium, the design temperature and the budget.

  • Q2: What should be noted when welding duplex stainless steel S32950?
It is necessary to control the line energy ≤1.5 kJ/mm and the interpass temperature ≤150℃, and it is recommended to use matching welding materials (such as ER329). After welding, solution treatment (water cooling at 1020-1100℃) is recommended to restore the duplex ratio and corrosion resistance. Liaocheng Jincheng Yangming Special Steel Co., Ltd. can provide welding procedure qualification services.

  • Q3: How many delivery states are there for round steel?
Usually, three types are provided: hot-rolled black skin, peeled and turned smooth, or ground. The black skin state has oxide scale on the surface, which is suitable for rough machining; the turned smooth state can achieve an outer diameter tolerance of h9, which is suitable for direct CNC machining; the ground state has a surface roughness ≤Ra1.6μm, which is used for precision shaft parts.

  • Q4: What are the maximum outer diameter and wall thickness of the forged ring?
Limited by the forging equipment capacity, Liaocheng Jincheng Yangming Special Steel Co., Ltd. can produce rings with a maximum outer diameter of 2500mm and a wall thickness of 30-300mm. For extra-large specifications, the process of segmental forging and then welding can be used, which needs to be evaluated separately.

  • Q5: Does the steel ingot need to be homogenized annealed before subsequent forging?
It is strongly recommended. Especially for the S32950 steel ingot, homogenization annealing at 1200℃×8h can eliminate component segregation and improve hot working plasticity. Liaocheng Jincheng Yangming Special Steel Co., Ltd. can provide pre-annealed or directly supply annealed steel ingots.

  • Q6: Does your company's products support third-party testing?
It is fully supported. The regular testing items include tensile, impact, hardness, grain size, ultrasonic flaw detection, etc. You can entrust institutions such as SGS and TÜV to witness on-site and issue reports, and the relevant fees will be borne by the customer.

  • Q7: How long is the delivery cycle generally?
The standard specification round steel (Φ20-200mm) is in sufficient stock and can be shipped within 7 days. For steel ingots and forged rings, it depends on the size and quantity, usually 15-30 days. Rush orders can be negotiated.
