1. What's the difference between 15CrNi3MoV and 15CrNi3MoVA?
The suffix "A" indicates high-quality steel, which requires lower P and S content (≤0.025%), higher smelting quality, and better purity. It shows more stable performance in low-temperature toughness and corrosion resistance. Our company can supply both grades according to your technical agreement.
2. Can this round steel be used in a -60℃ environment?
This steel grade is typically designed for -40℃ working conditions. If -60℃ impact toughness is required, the Akv can still be ≥47J by optimizing the heat treatment (such as increasing the tempering temperature or using isothermal quenching). However, the specific process flow needs to be confirmed with our technical team in advance.
3. Is additional coating protection required in a seawater corrosion environment?
Although 15CrNi3MoV(A) itself has better seawater corrosion resistance than ordinary steel, in high-flow seawater or strong impact corrosion situations, it is recommended to use it in combination with epoxy coatings or cathodic protection to extend the full life cycle.
4. How to ensure the core performance of round steel with a diameter of 300mm?
For large-diameter bars, by strictly controlling the forging ratio (≥5), adopting the water-air alternating quenching process, and strengthening the ultrasonic flaw detection of the core, the uniform structure of the whole cross-section is ensured, and the impact energy of the core is not less than 80% of the edge value.
5. What about the welding performance of this material?
The carbon equivalent of this steel is about 0.45%, which belongs to the weldable category. It is recommended to preheat at 150-200℃, slow cooling after welding and immediately conduct stress relief annealing. The welded joint can reach ≥40J in the impact test at -40℃. 6. Can you provide precision ground bars with a small diameter (16mm) for precision machining?
