Aviation Electronics Repair Bench — ESD Protected Work Table for Aircraft MRO Maintenance
There's a reason most MRO hangars still use benches that look like they were built in the 1990s.
Aviation maintenance has always been conservative about tools. If it works, keep using it. But here's what's changing: modern aircraft are flying with more electronics than ever. Fly-by-wire systems, integrated modular avionics, electronic engine controls — the line between "airframe mechanic" and "electronics technician" has blurred. And those avionics boxes are sensitive to static discharge in ways that mechanical parts never were.
We build work tables designed for that environment.
What makes an MRO bench different from a factory bench
An assembly line bench sits in a climate-controlled cleanroom. Temperature stays at 22°C. Humidity is regulated. The biggest risk is ESD from operators.
An MRO hangar bench lives in a different world.
The hangar door opens and closes all day. In summer, outside air at 35°C with 80% humidity rolls in. In winter, it's dry and cold. The bench gets temperature swings. It gets condensation. It gets hydraulic fluid, jet fuel residue, de-icing chemicals, and occasionally coffee spilled by a mechanic working a double shift.
A bench in that environment needs to do three things the factory bench doesn't:
Not rust when humidity spikes
Handle heavy components — not just circuit boards, but entire LRUs (line-replaceable units) that weigh 20–40 kg
Keep tools organized in a way that passes FAA/EASA audit
We designed for all three.
The work surface: built for hangar conditions
Same 5mm polymer composite ESD laminate as our industrial benches — but with one difference. The edge banding is sealed tighter because moisture is the enemy in an MRO hangar. Condensation forms on the steel frame, rolls down, and pools at the edges. If the work surface edge isn't sealed, moisture wicks into the fiberboard core and the table starts delaminating from the inside out. We've seen it happen.
Our surface is bonded under heat and pressure. PVC edge banding seals the perimeter completely. Surface resistance holds at 10⁶–10⁹ ohms, ANSI/ESD S20.20 compliant. Ground chain connects through the steel frame to your hangar's earth point.
Color: forest green. It's standard on all our ESD benches. Easy on the eyes under hangar fluorescent lighting.
Frame: cold-rolled steel, welded
We use cold-rolled steel for the frame. Not hot-rolled. Here's why it matters in an MRO context:
Hot-rolled steel has mill scale — a rough oxide layer that holds moisture against the metal. In a humid hangar environment, that means rust starts forming on the inside of the frame within months. You can't see it until the frame starts flaking rust onto the floor.
Cold-rolled steel has a smooth, clean surface. We apply electrostatic powder coating and bake at 180°C. The coating doesn't chip when a mechanic drops a tool box against the leg. It doesn't peel when hydraulic fluid spills and gets wiped off.
Load rating: 3,000 kg uniform load. An F-16 radar assembly on its transport stand weighs about 350 kg. An A320 bleed air valve is maybe 25 kg. An engine LRU is 40–50 kg. You're not going to overload this table with anything that comes through an MRO shop.

Tool control that passes audit
FAA and EASA both require tool control and accountability in MRO operations. Loose tools left on a work surface are a finding. Tools not shadowed or inventoried are a finding.
That's where the pegboard makes a difference.
Square hole pegboard — 10×10mm holes on 28mm centers. Every tool gets a spot. Shadow outline the tools and you've got visual accountability. At shift change, the incoming tech can see immediately if something is missing.
Louver pegboard — 50×20mm slots for plastic bin brackets. Keep small hardware — screws, washers, lockwire, terminal lugs — sorted by size.
Drawer units go under the tabletop. Linked self-locking lock with one key. If your hangar requires locked tool storage at the end of each shift, this covers it.
All storage modules are interchangeable. Swap pegboard for louver. Move drawers to the other side. Nothing is permanent.
Power routing keeps cords off the work surface
Recessed panel on the back frame: one five-outlet socket (two-prong + three-prong) with a circuit breaker. Instead of a power strip sitting on the bench collecting metal filings from wire brush work, the outlet is built into the frame. The work surface stays clear.
Packaging that ships door to door
KD package. Every steel component wrapped in VCI (vapor corrosion inhibitor) film. Foam edge protectors. Hardware bagged and taped to the frame.
A maintenance tech assembles it in about 20 minutes. Instructions are printed — no QR-code-to-video nonsense.
FAQ
Can you build it to fit a specific test equipment footprint? Yes. Common requests: cutouts for oscilloscope clearance, reinforced sections for heavy test fixtures, threaded inserts for mounting vise clamps. Provide dimensions and we'll adjust the frame.
Does it pass FAA tool control requirements? The pegboard supports shadowing. The drawer system locks. If your hangar requires RFID-tagged tool tracking, we can add predrilled mounting points for your system.
How does the ESD surface hold up to chemical exposure? Standard hydraulic fluid (Skydrol), jet fuel (Jet A-1), and isopropyl alcohol do not damage the surface. Heavy solvents like MEK should be wiped off promptly. We can provide chemical resistance test data on request.
Do you sell to military MRO? Yes. We've supplied workstations to defense contractor maintenance depots. Export compliance handled per destination country requirements.
Sample order for first-time buyers? Standard practice for overseas customers. One unit to verify build quality, fit, and finish before placing a production order.
What's the lead time? Standard sizes — 15–20 working days. Custom configurations — 20–25 days. Quote within 24 hours, FOB Shanghai or CIF destination port.
If you're upgrading your avionics repair line or fitting out a new MRO station and need work tables that hold up to hangar conditions — send over the specs. Same-day quote.
