Detailed Description of Angle Steel
1. Product Overview
Commonly known as angle iron, angle steel is a long steel product with an L-shaped cross-section formed by two mutually perpendicular sides. Featuring stable structure, easy processing and high cost performance, it is one of the most widely used sectional steels in construction, machinery and steel structure projects.
2. Executive Standards
National Standard: GB/T 706-2016 Hot Rolled Section Steel (governs dimensions, weight and permissible deviations)
Material Standard: GB/T 700 (Carbon Structural Steel), GB/T 1591 (High Strength Low Alloy Structural Steel)
Acceptance Standard: GB/T 2101-2017 (Specification for acceptance of appearance, dimension and mechanical properties)
Anti-corrosion Standard: GB/T 13912 (Requirements for hot-dip galvanized angle steel)
3. Classification & Specifications
3.1 Classification by Cross-section
Equal Angle SteelTwo sides with identical width. Specification is marked as Side Width × Side Width × Thickness (mm), e.g. ∠50×50×5. It can also be indicated by size number (side width in centimeter), such as No.5 angle steel.Size range: Side width 20-250 mm, thickness 3-24 mm.
Unequal Angle SteelTwo sides with different widths. Specification is marked as Long Side Width × Short Side Width × Thickness (mm), e.g. ∠63×40×6.Size range: Long side 25-250 mm, short side 16-160 mm.
3.2 Classification by Production Process
Hot Rolled Angle Steel: Mainstream product with dense grain and high strength, suitable for heavy-duty structures such as factory buildings and bridge frames.
Cold Formed Angle Steel: High dimensional accuracy and smooth surface, applied to light frames and decoration projects.
Galvanized Angle Steel: Made from hot rolled or cold formed steel with galvanizing treatment for rust prevention. Divided into hot-dip galvanized (excellent anti-corrosion performance) and cold galvanized (mainly for decoration use).

4. Material & Chemical Composition
4.1 Common Grades
Q235B: Ordinary carbon steel with yield strength ≥ 235 MPa. Good toughness and weldability, the most widely used grade.
Q355B: Low alloy steel with yield strength ≥ 355 MPa. High strength and low temperature resistance, ideal for heavy-duty and low-temperature projects.
SS400: Japanese standard grade with properties equivalent to Q235B, commonly used for export orders.
Q235A / Q235C: Q235A for general structures; Q235C for low temperature environments.
4.2 Main Chemical Composition (Q235B)

Note: Sulfur and phosphorus are harmful elements. Lower content ensures better material toughness.
5. Mechanical Properties (Reference for Q235B)
Yield Strength: ≥ 235 MPa (Thickness ≤ 16 mm)
Tensile Strength: 370-500 MPa
Elongation: ≥ 26% (Indicates material toughness)
Bending Property: No crack after 180° cold bending (Bending diameter = 2 × steel thickness)
6. Dimensional & Appearance Tolerance
6.1 Dimensional Tolerance (GB/T 706-2016)
Side width deviation: ±1 mm for side width ≤ 56 mm; ±1.5 mm for side width ＞ 56 mm
Thickness deviation: ±0.3 ~ ±0.4 mm (varies with specifications)
Camber: ≤ 0.4% of total length (max 4 mm per meter)
Weight deviation: ±5% between actual weight and theoretical weight
6.2 Appearance Quality
No cracks, folds, scabs, delaminations or inclusions on surface.
Smooth end face without burrs or deformation. Galvanized layer shall be uniform without missing plating, peeling or blisters.
Clear marking on each piece: specification, material grade, standard number, manufacturer logo and batch number.

9. Packaging, Transportation & Storage
9.1 Packaging
Delivered in firm bundles, each bundle weighs 2-5 tons. Labels are attached on ends indicating specification, material, batch number, net weight and manufacturer.
Bare packing as standard. Waterproof wrapping paper is used for galvanized products against moisture.
9.2 Transportation
Keep goods away from rain, moisture and direct sunlight to prevent rust. Avoid collision and deformation during lifting.
Place goods evenly and fix firmly during shipment to prevent sliding and extrusion damage.
9.3 Storage
Store in dry and ventilated warehouses. Keep products 30 cm above ground to avoid damp erosion.
Stack products by specifications and materials with clear labels for easy access.
Keep galvanized angle steel away from acid, alkali and corrosive substances to protect the galvanized layer.
10. Quality Inspection & Acceptance
Visual inspection: Check surface defects, dimensions, camber and marks piece by piece.
Dimensional sampling inspection: Randomly select 10% of goods per batch, measure side width, thickness and length with calipers and tape.
Mechanical property test: Take 1-2 samples per batch for tensile and bending tests in accordance with GB/T 228.1.
Material verification: Check material certificates. Spectrum analysis can be conducted if necessary to confirm chemical composition.
Weight acceptance: Weigh the goods. A weight deviation within ±5% is deemed qualified.
11. Delivery Information
Standard length: 6 meters per piece. Custom lengths from 3 meters to 12 meters are available.
Delivery lead time: 5-7 working days. In-stock goods can be delivered within 3 days, customized products within 7 days.
Transportation: Truck, railway and sea freight, suitable for domestic and export orders.
