I. Core Definition of the Product
Hot rolled steel coil (referred to as "HR coil"), also known as black coil, is a coiled steel product rolled at a high temperature (usually heated to 1100-1250℃). Compared with cold rolled steel coil, the production process of hot rolled steel coil is simpler, without subsequent annealing treatment, and the surface retains the iron oxide scale (black skin) formed during the rolling process, hence the name "black coil". It has a wide thickness range, which can be customized according to needs, and the coil weight is usually between 10-30 tons, which is convenient for storage, transportation and subsequent processing.
II. Characteristics of the Production Process
The production process of hot rolled steel coil mainly includes six links: raw material preparation, heating, rolling, coiling, inspection and packaging. Each link is strictly controlled to ensure stable product quality:
Raw Material Preparation: High-quality continuous casting billets (slabs) are adopted to ensure uniform composition, no inclusions and no cracks of the raw materials, laying a foundation for subsequent rolling;
Heating Treatment: The slab is sent into a heating furnace and uniformly heated to 1100-1250℃, so that the internal structure of the steel is softened, the plasticity is enhanced, and the rolling forming is facilitated;
Multi-pass Rolling: The slab is rolled into a thicker intermediate billet by a roughing mill, and then rolled multiple times by a finishing mill to accurately control the product thickness, width and surface flatness. On-line temperature control technology is adopted during the rolling process to ensure uniform steel performance;
Coiling Forming: After the rolled steel strip is cooled to an appropriate temperature by a cooling device, it is coiled into a tight steel coil by a coiler. The tension is controlled during the coiling process to avoid loosening and deformation of the steel coil;
Inspection and Testing: Comprehensive testing is carried out on the thickness, width, yield strength, tensile strength, surface quality and other indicators of the steel coil, and unqualified products are strictly prohibited from leaving the factory;
Packaging and Protection: Waterproof packaging paper, plastic film and steel strip are used for winding packaging to prevent the steel coil from being damp, rusted and damaged by collision during storage and transportation.

IV. Main Materials and Grades
The materials of hot rolled steel coil are mainly carbon structural steel and low-alloy high-strength steel. Different grades correspond to different mechanical properties and are suitable for different application scenarios. The common grades and characteristics are as follows:
Q235 Series: The most commonly used grade of plain carbon hot rolled steel coil, with a yield strength of 235MPa and a tensile strength of 375-500MPa. It has good plasticity, strong weldability and low price, and is mainly used for building structures, supports, containers, agricultural machinery accessories, etc.;
Q355 Series: Low-alloy high-strength hot rolled steel coil, with a yield strength of 355MPa and a tensile strength of 470-630MPa. ST37-2: German standard plain carbon hot rolled steel coil, with a yield strength of ≥235MPa and a tensile strength of 360-510MPa, suitable for general structural parts, containers, pipelines, etc.;
ASTM A36: American standard plain carbon hot rolled steel coil, with a yield strength of ≥250MPa and a tensile strength of 400-550MPa, which meets international standards and is mainly used for foreign trade export, large-scale steel structures, mechanical manufacturing, etc.

The specification parameters of hot rolled steel coil can be customized according to customer needs. The conventional specifications are as follows, and special specifications can be negotiated for production:
Thickness: 1.5mm, 2.0mm, 2.5mm, 3.0mm, 4.0mm, 5.0mm, 6.0mm, 8.0mm, 10.0mm-20.0mm (customizable);
Width: 1000mm, 1250mm, 1500mm, 1800mm (conventional width), special width can be customized;
Coil Weight: 10 tons, 15 tons, 20 tons, 25 tons, 30 tons (can be adjusted according to transportation and processing needs);
Surface State: Black skin (iron oxide scale), pickled (iron oxide scale removed, smooth surface);
Executive Standard: GB/T 3274-2017 (National Standard), JIS G 3101 (Japanese Standard), DIN 17100 (German Standard), ASTM A36 (American Standard).

Construction Industry: Used for steel structure workshops, bridges, scaffolding, tower cranes, floor slabs, wall panels, anti-theft doors, etc. It is the core steel in building structures, which can bear building loads and ensure structural stability;
Mechanical Manufacturing Industry: Used for manufacturing machine tools, construction machinery (excavators, cranes), agricultural machinery and equipment, pressure vessels, gears, bearings, etc. It uses its excellent mechanical properties and processing performance to meet the forming and use needs of mechanical parts;

VII. Storage and Transportation Notes
Storage: It should be stored in a dry, ventilated and rainproof warehouse, avoiding outdoor storage to prevent dampness and rust; The steel coil should be placed vertically, avoiding horizontal stacking to prevent deformation and flattening of the steel coil; Steel coils of different specifications and grades should be stored separately with clear marks for easy search;
Transportation: Flatbed trucks and containers are used for transportation. During transportation, they are firmly fixed with steel strips and steel wire ropes to prevent the steel coil from sliding and colliding; Avoid contact with sharp objects to prevent surface scratches; During rainy days, rainproof measures should be taken to avoid dampness of the steel coil.
