FRP desulfurization tower, also known as fiberglass desulfurization tower, is a tower equipment made of fiberglass reinforced plastic (FRP), mainly used to treat harmful gases such as sulfur dioxide (SO ₂) in industrial waste gas to meet environmental emission standards.
1、 Definition and Evolution
A desulfurization tower is a tower type equipment used for desulfurization treatment of industrial waste gas. Early desulfurization towers often used granite masonry, but with the development of fiberglass technology, FRP material gradually became mainstream due to its superior performance.
Compared to traditional granite materials, FRP desulfurization towers have advantages such as low cost, easy processing, corrosion resistance, and light weight, making them an important development trend at present.
2、 Core working principle
The working principle of FRP desulfurization tower is usually wet flue gas desulfurization. It uses spray washing and other methods to fully contact the flue gas containing SO ₂ with alkaline absorbent and undergo chemical reactions, converting SO ₂ into harmless substances such as sulfates, thereby achieving purification.
This process requires equipment to have a large gas-liquid contact area, strong disturbance, and low absorption resistance to ensure efficient desulfurization.
3、 Main performance characteristics
The FRP material endows the desulfurization tower with a series of outstanding features
Strong corrosion resistance: It has good resistance to chemical media such as acid, alkali, and salt, and is suitable for complex corrosive environments.
Lightweight and High Strength: The density is much lower than that of steel, but the tensile strength is high, making it easy to transport, install, and structurally stable.
Flexible design: Customized design and manufacturing can be carried out according to smoke volume, site conditions, and specific working conditions.
Stable operation: High desulfurization efficiency, relatively easy maintenance in the later stage, and low operating costs.
At the same time, FRP materials also have certain limitations in long-term temperature resistance (usually determined by the type of resin) and aging phenomena that may be affected by environmental factors such as ultraviolet radiation, which need to be considered in product design and material selection.
