Carbide saw teeth (also often referred to as tungsten carbide saw teeth or saw blade tips) are essentially the "cutting teeth" on a circular saw blade. They are usually not used individually, but are welded to the edge of the saw blade base (usually spring steel or alloy tool steel), and are directly responsible for cutting or grooving.
As the core cutting part of "industrial teeth," they possess extremely high hardness and wear resistance. Below, I have compiled a detailed overview of their material classification, shape characteristics, and selection points:
Carbide saw teeth are mainly composed of tungsten carbide (WC) and a metal binder. Based on different application scenarios, they are mainly divided into two categories:
YG type (Tungsten-Cobalt type):
Composition: Tungsten carbide + Cobalt (Co).
Characteristics: Strong impact resistance and good toughness, but relatively lower heat resistance and wear resistance.
Applications: This is the most commonly used material for wood processing (solid wood, plywood, MDF) and non-ferrous metal (aluminum, copper) cutting. Common grades include YG6, YG8, YG11, etc. The number represents the percentage of cobalt content; the higher the cobalt content (such as YG8), the better the toughness and the less likely it is to chip.
YT type (Tungsten-Titanium-Cobalt type):
Composition: Tungsten carbide + Titanium (Ti) + Cobalt.
Characteristics: High hardness and good heat resistance, but prone to adhesive wear when cutting carbon-containing materials (such as wood).
Applications: Mainly used for cutting ferrous metals such as steel and cast iron.
Carbide saw teeth come in many specifications, usually divided into standard series and non-standard custom designs.
JX series (Woodworking specific):
These are very common standard models in the woodworking industry.
JX5 / JX15 / JX35: Usually used for cutting ordinary wood and plywood.
JX9: Often used for cutting waste wood containing iron nails; it is nickel-plated and has extremely high wear resistance.
Geometric parameters:
Usually expressed as Length (L) × Width (W) × Thickness (T).
For example: 12.5mm × 4.0mm × 2.0mm.
There are also special triangular and trapezoidal particles for specific milling or difficult-to-machine materials.
Matrix type：
Tungsten-cobalt (YG): WC + Co (Suitable for machining brittle materials such as cast iron, non-ferrous metals, plastics, and stone.)
Tungsten-titanium-cobalt (YT): WC + TiC + Co (Suitable for machining ordinary steel (long-chip steel), as TiC effectively prevents steel from sticking.)
Tungsten-titanium-tantalum(niobium)-cobalt (YW): WC + TiC + TaC/NbC + Co (General-purpose matrix, suitable for machining both steel and cast iron and non-ferrous metals, especially suitable for difficult-to-machine materials.)
