Pyranometers (total, reflective, and diffuse), spectrally resolved pyranometers, and pyranometers all operate on the principle of the thermoelectric effect. When used in conjunction with various radiation recorders or radiation ammeters, they can accurately measure total solar radiation, reflected radiation, diffuse radiation, infrared radiation, visible light, ultraviolet radiation, long-wave radiation, and other radiation types.

The TBQ-2 series pyranometers manufactured by our company are sensing elements based on the thermoelectric effect. They are designed to measure total solar radiation within the spectral range of 0.28 - 3.0 μm (and can also be used to measure total solar radiation incident on inclined surfaces). This product features strong corrosion resistance and high accuracy. It should be installed in a location free from sunlight obstruction within a 20 - meter radius around the device. When connected to computers and various solar radiation recorders, it can precisely measure total solar radiation energy and promptly record both the instantaneous and cumulative values of solar radiation. Additionally, this product can be placed horizontally downward to measure reflected radiation, and can be paired with a diffuse radiation shading ring to measure diffuse radiation.

Pyranometers are widely used in sectors such as solar energy utilization, meteorology, agriculture, architecture, material aging testing, air pollution monitoring, and ecological surveys.

Structural Features


Working PrincipleTBQ-2-11

The TBQ-2 operates based on the thermoelectric effect. Its sensing element adopts a wire wound electroplated multi junction thermopile, whose surface is coated with a high-absorptivity black coating.

The hot junctions are located on the sensing surface, while the cold junctions are inside the instrument body. A temperature difference between the hot and cold junctions generates a thermoelectric potential. Within the linear range, the output signal is directly proportional to solar irradiance.

To reduce the influence of temperature, a temperature compensation circuit is provided. To protect against environmental effects on performance, the sensor is equipped with two layers of quartz glass domes, which are precisely manufactured through optical cold working and grinding.
