Introduction to TISI Certification and List of Regulated Products in Thailand

I. Introduction to TISI Certification Body in Thailand

Thai national standards are primarily developed and published by the Thai Industrial Standards Institute (TISI).

TISI, short for Thai Industrial Standards Institute, is affiliated with the Thai Ministry of Industry. Established in 1968 under the Ministry of Industry's Industrial Product Standards Act (B.E. 2511), it was approved by the Thai Cabinet. Its function is to act as the national standards legislative body, enacting and revising relevant laws and regulations. Its main responsibility is to develop mandatory and recommended industrial standards to meet the needs of Thailand's industrial, trade, and economic development, as well as to ensure fair trade and eliminate trade barriers caused by standards measurement.

TISI offers product certification programs, including two certification marks: voluntary and mandatory. Voluntary certification can be applied for by Thai factories.

Products that meet the standards are permitted to use the TISI mark.

II. Scope of Products Subject to TISI Certification in Thailand (List of regulated products attached at the end)

As of May 2025, the Thailand TISI organization mandates certification for 19 product categories, including: building materials, consumer goods, electronic and electrical products, water conservancy equipment, food, gas, medical equipment, pigments & coatings, machinery & vehicles, and chemical products. Certification for other product categories is voluntary.

III. Thailand TISI Certification Process

1) Application Submission: Applicants need to submit a product certification application to TISI.

2) Factory Inspection: TISI certification requires a factory inspection by an inspector dispatched by a Thai agency.

3) Product Testing: TISI certification testing in Thailand must be conducted in a local Thai laboratory.

4) Document Evaluation and Certificate Issuance: After the factory inspection and product testing are passed, TISI will review the test reports and factory inspection reports, and then issue a TISI certificate.

5) Post-Certification Surveillance Audit: To ensure that certified products continue to meet the relevant standards and that the factory remains capable of maintaining the quality of certified products, TISI will conduct a post-certification surveillance audit.

Certification process: Submit application materials – Factory audit – Sample testing – Certificate issuance
