Diamond PSE Certification vs. Circle PSE Certification
Japan's Electrical Appliance Safety Law stipulates that 498 types of products must pass safety certification to enter the Japanese market. Of these, 165 Class A products should obtain the diamond-shaped PSE mark, and 333 Class B products should obtain the circle-shaped PSE mark.
PSE Diamond Certification: Scope of Class A Specific Electrical Appliances Certification
(1) Wires and cables, fuses, wiring devices (electrical accessories, lighting appliances, etc.), current limiters, transformers, ballasts
(2) Electric heating appliances, electric power application machinery and appliances (household appliances), electronic application machinery and appliances (high-frequency hair removal devices)
(3) Other AC electrical machinery and appliances (electric insect killers, DC power supply devices), portable motors
Note: Definition of "Specific Electrical Appliances": Electrical appliances with a high probability of hazard from the perspective of construction, usage method, or other usage conditions: ① Used without supervision for extended periods; ② Used by vulnerable groups; ③ Electrical appliances used in direct contact with the human body.
PSE Circular Certification: Category B Japanese Non-Specific Electrical Appliance PSE Certification Scope
Products certified with the Japanese circular PSE mark, belonging to the "Non-Specific Electrical Appliances" category, must undergo testing by a laboratory accredited by the Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) to confirm compliance with Japanese electrical appliance technical standards and obtain a qualified test report and PSE certificate before the PSE circular mark can be affixed to the product, allowing it to be sold in the Japanese market.
Detailed Comparison of Diamond-Shaped and Circular PSE Certifications
Diamond-Shaped:
(1) Diamond-shaped PSE generally targets components, especially key components such as electronic components;
(2) Diamond-shaped PSE requires a longer factory audit period;
(3) Direct issuing bodies for diamond-shaped PSE certification include CQC, TUV, ITS, and JET Japan;
(4) A third-party certification body authorized by the Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry is required;
(5) According to the DENAN Law, manufacturers are obligated to retain test results and certificates;
(6) The label must bear the diamond-shaped PSE mark.
Round PSE:
(1) Round PSE certification is generally for complete products;
(2) Round PSE certification does not require factory audits and has a shorter processing time;
(3) Round PSE certification can be issued by a Japanese-accredited laboratory;
(4) Certification must be done by a third-party certification body licensed by an internationally recognized body;
(5) According to the DENAN Law, manufacturers are obligated to retain test results and certificates;
(6) The label must bear the round PSE mark.
