1. Structure of Inflatable Rubber Dams
The inflatable rubber dam consists of four core components, each playing a critical role in ensuring its stability and functionality:
1.1 Rubber Dam Bag
The dam bag is the main "body" of the structure, made of high-strength composite materials—typically multi-layered synthetic rubber (e.g., neoprene or ethylene-propylene-diene monomer rubber) reinforced with polyester or nylon fabric. This material combination provides excellent tensile strength, corrosion resistance, and durability, enabling the dam bag to withstand water pressure and harsh environmental conditions (such as ultraviolet radiation and temperature changes). The shape of the dam bag is usually cylindrical or arc-shaped; when inflated, it forms a barrier to block water flow.
1.2 Anchoring System
To prevent the dam bag from shifting or being washed away by water pressure, an anchoring system is used to fix the dam bag to the riverbed or shore. This system mainly includes anchor bolts, anchor plates, and sealing gaskets. The anchor bolts are embedded in the concrete foundation, while the anchor plates clamp the edge of the dam bag tightly. The sealing gaskets ensure watertightness between the dam bag and the foundation, avoiding water leakage at the connection points.
1.3 Inflation and Drainage Equipment
This equipment controls the inflation and deflation of the dam bag, regulating the dam's height. It includes air compressors (or water pumps, for water-inflated dams), control valves, and pipelines. When water storage is needed, the air compressor (or water pump) injects air (or water) into the dam bag, raising it to the desired height. When water needs to be discharged (e.g., during floods), the control valve opens to release air (or water), allowing the dam bag to deflate and lower, ensuring smooth water flow.
1.4 Concrete Foundation
The concrete foundation serves as the supporting base for the entire dam, laid along the riverbed. It is designed to bear the weight of the inflated dam bag and the water pressure, and its surface is smooth to reduce friction with the dam bag during inflation and deflation. Additionally, the foundation is equipped with drainage channels to prevent water accumulation from damaging the dam structure.

2.1 Flood Control and Water Storage
In river basins prone to floods, inflatable rubber dams act as temporary barriers. During the dry season, the dam is inflated to store water, supplementing groundwater and ensuring water supply for production and daily use. When floods occur, the dam is quickly deflated to increase the river's water discharge capacity, reducing flood risks.
2.2 Irrigation
In agricultural areas, inflatable rubber dams are built in irrigation canals. By inflating the dam, the water level in the canal is raised, ensuring sufficient water reaches farmland, especially in areas with low natural water levels. This improves irrigation efficiency and promotes crop growth.
2.3 Navigation Improvement
In inland waterways, inflatable rubber dams help adjust the water level of rivers or canals. By maintaining a stable and appropriate water depth, they create favorable conditions for the navigation of ships and boats, reducing the need for large-scale dredging projects.
2.4 Small-Scale Hydropower Generation
In small rivers or streams, inflatable rubber dams can raise the water level to form a small water head. This water head drives small hydropower turbines to generate electricity, providing clean energy for rural areas or small communities.
2.5 Landscape and Ecological Protection
In urban or scenic areas, inflatable rubber dams are used to create artificial lakes, water parks, or wetland landscapes.
