Functional Uses
  • Protection Functions: It is equipped with protection functions such as generator unbalance, generator differential protection, overexcitation, loss of excitation, third-harmonic neutral point undervoltage, overfrequency, and underfrequency. It can also provide protection like phase directional overcurrent, negative-sequence overvoltage, and phase overvoltage, which can effectively respond to various fault conditions and ensure the safe operation of the generator.

  • Monitoring Functions: It can monitor the operating parameters of the generator, such as frequency, voltage, and current. Some models can also monitor parameters like generator excitation current and vibration through optional modules. Combined with the waveform capture function, waveform data can be stored and read via software for fault diagnosis.

  • Control Functions: Through programmable logic, it realizes the control of generator-related circuits or equipment, ensuring the generator operates stably under normal conditions and can promptly cut off relevant circuits in case of faults to prevent the expansion of faults.

Working Principles
  • Signal Acquisition and Processing: Electromagnetic transformers are used to reduce the input analog signals from source instrument transformers. The signals pass through an 11.5kHz low-pass analog anti-aliasing filter and are simultaneously collected by a sample-and-hold buffer to ensure no phase shift. Then, a 16-bit A/D converter converts the signals into digital values, which are transmitted to the CPU for analysis.

  • Frequency Measurement: It is realized by measuring the time between zero-crossing points of the composite signal of three-phase bus voltage, line voltage, or three-phase current. The signal passes through a low-pass filter to prevent false zero-crossing. The sampling rate of current and voltage is set according to the measured frequency to improve the accuracy of the Discrete Fourier Transform (DFT) algorithm.

  • Dual-Processor Control: The Freescale MPC5125 32-bit microprocessor is used to measure all analog signals and digital inputs, and control all output relays; the Freescale MPC8358 32-bit microprocessor controls all advanced Ethernet communication protocols. They work together to realize various functions.
