The MVME162-14 is a product in Motorola's MVME162 series, featuring a dual-height VME module design. This series is based on the Motorola 68k processor family and is widely used in embedded systems such as industrial automation, robot control systems, and data acquisition & monitoring systems. Here are its detailed specifications:
Processor

  • Optional 25MHz or 32MHz MC68040 enhanced 32-bit microprocessor, equipped with an 8KB cache, MMU (Memory Management Unit), and FPU (Floating-Point Unit).

  • Alternatively, an optional 25MHz MC68LC040 enhanced 32-bit microprocessor, featuring an 8KB cache and MMU.

Memory Configuration

  • DRAM: 4MB, 8MB, 16MB, or 32MB of shared DRAM, supporting parity checking or ECC (Error-Correcting Code) functionality. It can be expanded to 64MB via an expansion mezzanine.

  • SRAM: 128KB SRAM with a backup battery, used to preserve critical data during power outages.

  • Additional Storage:

    • Some models include flash memory for on-board monitoring/debugging (e.g., 1MB for MVME162-2xx/3xx models and 2MB for 7xx/8xx models).

    • 8K x 8 NVRAM (Non-Volatile Random-Access Memory) for persistent data storage.

    • A battery-backed real-time clock (TOD clock) to maintain accurate time tracking.

Interface Types

  • VME Bus Interface: A32/D64 VME bus master/slave interface with system controller functionality. It supports high-performance DMA and is compatible with VMEbus D64 and local bus memory burst cycles.

  • Serial Ports: 4 serial communication ports configured as EIA-232-D DTE, enabling connection to peripherals or legacy devices.

  • Expansion Ports: 2 Industry Pack ports for connecting additional functional modules (e.g., I/O cards, communication adapters).

  • Optional Interfaces:

    • SCSI bus interface with 32-bit local bus burst DMA (for high-speed storage device connections).

    • Ethernet transceiver interface with 32-bit local bus DMA (for network communication).

  • Programmable Sockets: 4 32-pin JEDEC sockets for EPROM and flash memory (available only on MVME162-2xx/3xx models; 7xx/8xx models have 2 sockets).

Timers

  • 6 32-bit timers (4 of which are independent of the VMEbus) for timing control, event counting, or pulse generation.

  • A watchdog timer to detect system malfunctions and trigger reset operations if anomalies occur, enhancing system reliability.

VME Bus Features

  • Supports 4-level requesters and 7-level interrupters, as well as 7-level interrupt handlers, enabling flexible interrupt management in multi-device systems.

  • Equipped with remote reset/abort/status control functions, allowing centralized management and monitoring of the module via the VMEbus.
