Definition and Classification of Stainless Steel Welded Pipes

Definition: Stainless steel welded pipes are made by rolling and welding steel plates or strips.

Classification: According to production methods, they can be divided into straight seam welded pipes and spiral welded pipes; according to usage, they can be classified as industrial welded pipes, decorative welded pipes, and sanitary welded pipes, etc.; according to material, they can be divided into 304 stainless steel welded pipes, 316L stainless steel welded pipes, 321 stainless steel welded pipes, etc.

Features

Strong corrosion resistance: The stainless steel material contains alloy elements such as chromium and nickel, which can form a dense oxide film on the surface, effectively preventing the erosion of corrosive media, making it suitable for various harsh corrosive environments.

Hygienic and reliable: The surface is smooth, bacteria and dirt are not easily grown, and it is not easily contaminated by the transported medium, meeting the strict hygiene requirements of industries such as food and medicine.

High strength: It has high tensile strength and yield strength, can withstand large pressure and external forces, ensuring the safe operation of the pipeline system.

Light weight: Compared with other metal pipes of the same size and strength, stainless steel welded pipes are lighter in weight, facilitating transportation, installation and construction, and can reduce labor intensity and construction costs.

Aesthetically pleasing: The surface has high gloss and metallic luster, can be directly used in construction decoration and other fields, without the need for additional surface treatment, and can enhance the overall aesthetic appearance of buildings.

Flattening Test

For material heat treated in a continuous furnace flattening tests shall be made on a sufficient number of pipes to constitute 5 % of the lot, but in no case less than 2 lengths of pipe.

Hydrostatic or Nondestructive Testing

Each pipe shall be subjected to the nondestructive electric test or the hydrostatic test

Markings

Markings will adhere to prescribed specifications in A999/A999M and shall include the NPS or OD and schedule number or average wall thickness, heat number, and NH (when hydrotesting is not performed) and ET (when eddy-current testing is performed) or UT (when ultrasonic testing is performed). The marking shall also include the manufacturer’s private identifying mark, the marking requirement of section 12.3 on Hydrostatic or Nondestructive Electric Test, if applicable, and whether seamless (SML), welded (WLD), or heavily cold-worked (HCW). For Grades TP304H, TP316H, TP321H & TP347H, the marking shall also include the heat number and heat-treatment lot identification.
