A metal disc caliper disc brake (caliper disc brake) is a type of disc brake. Its rotating element works on an end face and is called a brake disc. Fixed element is the working area of the friction block and its metal back plate of the brake block, each brake in 2 ~ 4, these brake blocks and their actuating devices are mounted across the brake disc on both sides of the clamp-shaped bracket, always known as the brake caliper. The brake disc and caliper together constitute a caliper disc brake.
It refers to the component that generates the braking torque, the force used to impede the motion or tendency of the vehicle to move. Currently, friction brakes are mostly used in automobiles, which use the friction between the fixed element and the working surface of the rotating element to generate the braking torque.
According to the different installation positions, brakes can be divided into wheel brakes and central brakes. The brake with rotating elements fixed on the wheel or half-shaft is called a wheel brake; the brake with rotating elements fixed on the drive shaft of the transmission system is called a central brake. Wheel brakes are generally used for service brakes, but also for emergency brakes and parking brakes; the central brake is generally used only for parking brakes and slow brakes.
According to the different rotating elements, friction brakes can be divided into two categories: drum and disc. The rotating element in the friction pair of the drum brake is the brake drum (brake drum), with its cylindrical surface as the working surface; the rotating element in the friction pair of the disc brake is the disc-shaped brake disc (brake disc), with its end face as the working surface.
Disc brakes are divided into caliper disc brakes and full disc brakes according to the different structural forms of their fixed elements. The fixed element and rotating element of the friction pair of the full disc brake are disc-shaped and are called fixed disc and rotating disc, respectively. All the working surfaces of the disc can be in contact with the friction pads at the same time, and its structural principle is similar to that of a friction clutch.
Classification
Caliper disc brakes have strong heat dissipation capacity and good thermal stability, so they are widely used on most cars and light trucks.
