Introduction:

Ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer, referred to as EVA. Generally, the content of vinyl acetate (VA) is 5%-40%. Compared with polyethylene (PE), EVA reduces high crystallinity and improves toughness and impact resistance due to the introduction of vinyl acetate monomer into the molecular chain. , filler compatibility and heat sealing performance, are widely used in foamed shoe materials, functional shed films, packaging molds, hot melt adhesives, wires and cables and toys and other fields.

1. EVA with a vinyl acetate content of less than 5%, its main products are films, wires and cables, LDPE modifiers, adhesives, etc.;

EVA is made by copolymerization of LLDPE (Linear Low Density Polyethylene) and acetic acid (VA).

Polymerization method of EVA:

1. High pressure bulk polymerization (plastic products)

2. Solution polymerization (PVC processing aid)

3. Emulsion polymerization (adhesive products)

4. Suspension polymerization

Emulsion polymerization is adopted for those with vinyl acetate (VA) content higher than 30%;

High-pressure bulk polymerization is used for those with low vinyl acetate (VA) content.

The main factors affecting the performance of EVA:

1. Melt Index (referred to as MI, melt index)

2. VA% acetic acid content

With a certain melt index (MI), the higher the vinyl acetate (VA) content, the higher its elasticity, softness, compatibility, transparency, etc.; when the VA content decreases, its performance is close to polyethylene (PE) , Increased rigidity, wear resistance and electrical insulation.

With a certain VA content, the melt index (MI) increases, the softening point decreases, the processability and surface gloss are improved, but the strength will decrease. Otherwise, with the decrease of MI, the molecular weight will increase, and the impact performance and environmental stress cracking resistance will increase.

EVA is characterized by good softness, rubber-like elasticity, good flexibility at -50°C, transparency and surface gloss, good chemical stability, good aging resistance and ozone resistance, no toxicity. Good blendability, colorability and molding processability with fillers.

The polarity of acetate increases elasticity and viscosity, reduces crystallinity and electrical properties, and is soluble in hydrocarbons and oils.

 

EVA resin has a wide range of uses. Generally, it can be divided into the following uses according to the proportion of vinyl acetate content:

1) EVA with a VA content of less than 5%, its main products are films, wires and cables, LDPE modifiers, adhesives, etc.;

2) EVA with a VA content of 5%~10%, the products are elastic films, injection molding and foaming products, etc.;

3) EVA with a VA content of 20%~28% is mainly used for hot melt adhesives and coating products;

4) EVA with a VA content of 28%-33%, photovoltaic materials, solar cell adhesives, etc.;

5) EVA and adhesives with a VA content of 38%-40%;

6) The VA content is 5%~45%. The main products are films (including agricultural films) and sheets, injection molding, molding products, foaming products, hot melt adhesives, etc.

 

(1) Foam shoe material. Shoe material is the most important application field of EVA resin in my country. In the EVA resin used in shoe materials, the vinyl acetate content is generally 15% to 22%. Because EVA resin blended foam products have softness, good elasticity, and chemical corrosion resistance, they are widely used in the soles and interior materials of mid-to-high-end travel shoes, hiking shoes, slippers, and sandals. In addition, this material is also used in the field of sound insulation panels, gym mats and sealing materials.

 

(2) Film. The main purpose of EVA film is to produce functional greenhouse film. Functional shed film has high weather resistance, anti-fog drop and thermal insulation properties. Since polyethylene is not polar, even if a certain amount of anti-fog drop agent is added, its anti-fog drop performance can only last for about 2 months; while The shed film made by adding a certain amount of EVA resin not only has a high light transmittance, but also has a greatly improved anti-fog performance, which can generally last for more than 4 months. In addition, EVA can also be used to produce packaging films, medical films, laminated films, casting films, etc.

 

(3) Wire and cable. With the continuous development of computer and network engineering, out of consideration for the safety of the computer room, people are increasingly using halogen-free flame-retardant cables and silane cross-linked cables. Because EVA resin has good filler tolerance and crosslinkability, it is widely used in halogen-free flame-retardant cables, semiconductor shielded cables and two-step silane crosslinked cables. In addition, EVA resin is also used to make sheaths for some special cables. The EVA resin used in wire and cable generally has a vinyl acetate content of 12% to 24%.

 

(4) TOYS. EVA resin is also widely used in toys, such as baby wheels, seat cushions, etc.

 

(5) Hot melt adhesive. The hot-melt adhesive with EVA resin as the main component, because it does not contain solvents, does not pollute the environment and has high safety, is very suitable for automated assembly line production, so it is widely used in perfect book binding, furniture edge banding, automobiles and household appliances Assembly, shoemaking, carpet coating and metal anti-corrosion coating.

 

(6) Others. EVA resin is also widely used in the fields of ink, luggage, wine bottle cover, etc. It is estimated that the consumption of EVA resin in these areas is not less than 15 kt.

         EVA plastic raw material products are mainly used as shockproof materials. It is formed by copolymerization of ethylene and vinyl acetate. The copolymerization of ethylene-vinyl acetate reflects its softness, strong toughness, stress crack resistance, and rubber-like elastic thermoplastic. It has excellent elasticity, weather resistance, and chemical resistance. It can be cut and stamped into any shape according to customer needs.

         5. Heat preservation: heat insulation, heat preservation, cold protection and low temperature performance are excellent, and can withstand severe cold and exposure.

         6. Sound insulation: closed cells, good sound insulation
