Electrical parts of an appliance shall be located or enclosed to reduce the likelihood of unintentional contact with unisulated live parts. Insulated brush caps do not require additional enclosure.
An opening anywhere in the enclosure of a hand-supported appliance, or in the handle portion, the area likely to be handled in guiding during normal operation, of an appliance that normally rests on the ground and is guided by the handle is acceptable if the probe of Figure 10.1, when inserted as far as possible into the opening:
a) Does not enter the opening for a distance of more than 1/8 inch (3.2mm)
b) Does not touch any uninsulated live part or film-coated wire
