German technical background VOK ®- Closed acid catalysts for 451 solvent based and water-based paint systems
This additive promotes the cross-linking of amino resin and hydroxy resin, especially HMMM melamine formaldehyde resin needs an accelerator to reduce the curing temperature or baking time. This additive can be used to produce a stable single component system and provide constant durability, good storage stability, and the best paint film performance. It has no adverse effects on conductivity and wrinkle, and will not have harmful effects on gloss and fogging. Compared with pure p-toluenesulfonic acid, this additive shows that the viscosity increase is quite low during storage, which can prolong the storage period by 1.5-3 times. VOK ®- CATALYST 451 can have a baking temperature lower than 10-20 ℃ (15-35 ° F) compared with other closed p-toluenesulfonic acids (such as morpholine or aminomethyl propanol). VOK ®- CATALYST 451 (and VOK ®- CATALYST 450) is the fastest curing catalyst in this product, and provides the maximum hardness at the lowest baking temperature, which depends on the system, and starts to work at 80-90 ℃ (175-195 ° F) or above.
VOK ®- CATALYST 451 has ®- CATALYST 450 has the same acid blocking mechanism, but it is formed by mixing different solvents to provide this additive. Not used outside the North American market.
