Bearings can be seen anywhere in nowadays, and the bearings are often working in bad environment, especially for the wind power industry, it needs obey large cutting force, so cutting tools materials only can use bearing steel with high strength, the normal grade has GCr15(E52100,100Cr6 or SUJ2)
Bearings often use heat treatment to obtain high hardness, and obtain many performance
requirements, and the hardness after heat treatment will be above HRC45, some will be above
HRC62. And for large scale bearings, grinding is already difficult, it will be more difficult to machine
with turning process. It will require higher on the cutting tools.
The hardness of the bearings after heat treatment will be above HRC45,
and propose big challenge on the wear resistance, heat resistance of the cutting tools. Specific for above problems, Halnn recommend PCBN Insert BN-S20, BN-S200 and BN-H11 PCBN Insert, they are used for roughing, semi-finishing and finishing process, and helped solve these problems on hard turning bearings.
BN-S20 and BN-S200 belong to solid cbn insert, not only can be used for small cutting depth, but also avoid the failure mode, and improve efficiency of the bearings.
