BN-S20 Solid CBN Insert machining bearings with high cutting speed
Bearings, as one of the most important components in modern machine tools, common bearings materials include GCr15(E52100,100Cr6 or SUJ2) ,42CrMo(42CrMo4) ect materials.
In order to make sure long work time of the bearings, the manufacturer usually use heat treatment process to improve the hardness, wear resistance, toughness, and the hardness after heat treatment will be above HRC45, and some will reach HRC60, it also require high on the size precision, surface roughness. In early times, they use grinding process to obtain these characteristics, but with the development of the society, the efficiency of grinding process is low, the manufacturers are trying to searching other methods.
With the development of the cutting tools industry, turning instead of grinding process already become a trend, and turning instead of grinding also require high on the new cutting tools.
The hardness of the bearings after heat treatment will be above HRC45,
and propose big challenge on the wear resistance, heat resistance of the cutting tools. Specific for above problems, Halnn recommend PCBN Insert BN-S20, BN-S200 and BN-H11 PCBN Insert, they are used for roughing, semi-finishing and finishing process, and helped solve these problems on hard turning bearings.
BN-S20 and BN-S200 belong to solid cbn insert, not only can be used for small cutting depth, but also avoid the failure mode, and improve efficiency of the bearings.
BN-H11 PCBN Insert belong to brazing pcbn insert, has more cutting edges, and excellent wear resistance and heat resistance. When BN-H11 PCBN insert finish turning bearings, it not only make sure the size precision, but also achieve roughness Ra0.8
The application case for machining bearings with cbn insert
(1) Finish turning slew bearings raceway, end surface, the hardness is about HRC47~55, the allowance is less than 2mm, we can choose Halnn non-metal adhesive BN-S200 solid cbn insert, the cutting parameters as follows: ap≤1mm，Fr=0.05-0.35mm/r，Vc=60-250m/min, machining effect: The tool life will be 7 times of ceramic cutters, and the roughness can be controlled within Ra0.6~1.0mm.
(2) Finish turning the Cylindrical,endsurface, the hardness is HRC47~55, the allowance will be above 2mm, we recommend Halnn BN-S20 solid cbn insert, the cutting data: ap=1mm，Vc=140-180m/min, the processing efficiency: the tool life is longer and the roughness can reach Ra0.4.
(3) Finish turning the cylindrical and the inner bore, the hardness will be about HRC62, we choose Halnn BN-H11 pcbn insert, the cutting data: ap≤1mm，Fr=0.05-0.35mm/r，Vc=60-250m/min, machining effect: the roughness can be controlled within Ra0.8
For hard turning bearings, we need to choose the cutting tools depending on the bearings hardness, allowance, working condition.
